  • Stephen R. Covey (Author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) (MSL quote), USA   <2007-01-19 00:00>

Optimal Thinking beautifully convinces and illustrates why 'the enemy of the best is the good.' Insightfully, it blends and synthesizes idealistic and realistic thinking, left- and right-brain cognition, analysis and creative intuition, acceptance and optimism. A superb treatment of the idea of Personal Best.
  • Brian Tracy (MSL quote), USA   <2007-01-19 00:00>

This powerful, practical, most inspiring book gives you the ideas and tools you need to become an optimally productive and powerful person in every area of your life.

Optimal Thinking is a wonderful book filled with practical ideas and strategies that will assist people to lead a more satisfying, successful life. Dr. Glickman's warmth and empathy are apparent on every page and the reader will be able to identify with her many informative case examples. This is a book that will be read and re-read as each of us strives to achieve an "optimal" lifestyle.

After participating in an Optimal Thinking seminar with the author at my company, I read the book. The concept is universal, realistic, and simple, and the methodology has fascinating subtleties. The consequences of adopting Optimal Thinking are far reaching and profound, both qualitatively and quantitatively. If you are ready to stop settling for second best, then the book provides many situations to apply Optimal Thinking. Having read Good to Great, First Break All the Rules, Execution, Winning, The Seven Habits, etc. and the Think and Grow Rich positive thinking books in my earlier years, this book offered the missing ingredient, ie. the mental foundation for optimization and peak performance. If you enjoy audio and learn experientially, I recommend the 100 day Optimal Thinking audio cd program. It's fun and a powerful way to integrate optimal thinking personally and into an organization.

A friend of mine recommended Optimal Thinking after he attended a seminar presented by the author at his work. His 25 year marriage had deteriorated and he was considering divorce. He told me that Optimal Thinking saved his marriage. I bought the book six months ago, hoping that it would help me with my career. I had been living off a severance package for five months, and my many attempts to find a new position in an established company had been unsuccessful. When I was reading the book, I came up with several new options and the "optimal" strategy to achieve my objective. Three months ago, I signed a contract with the company I had primarily targeted. I recently began the 100-day Optimal Thinking audio- CD Program which I am enjoying immensely. I have already overcome some suboptimal exercise habits and am working on optimizing every area of my life. I definitely recommend Optimal Thinking.

Unfortunately some people who are invested in the old positive thinking model are making false statements about this book and the author. Dr. Glickman is a superb writer who shows us how to accept, understand and optimize all.

Here is what Dr. Glickman says about negative thinking on page 8: "Although negative thinking is often detrimental and scorned by many in society today, it is valuable. Negative thinking enables us to define and express our vulnerability, integrate trauma and grieve the meaningful losses in our lives. It also warns us of immminent danger. Negative thinking cautions us against investing our hard-earned money in fraudulent get-rich-quick schemes, or against diving into deep water when we don't know how to swim. It is necessary in any design process to anticipate flaws in products, services and projects so that they can be rectified."

Dr. Glickman also explains why positive thinking is valuable, and then enlightens us about five valid shortcomings of positive thinking. She courageously reveals the truth.

For me, the best part of this book is chapter 2 where Dr. Glickman explains how to make simple and complex decisions with the gut and mind, and how to formulate optimal questions to invite the best solutions. I agree with Dr Glickman that "Your purpose in relationships is to be your best self, regardless of the circumstances" and loved the section on optimal communication,

This book is a must read for all who are open to the truth, and who are interested in making the most of themselves and life. I enjoyed every page.

I heard an interview with Dr. Glickman on the radio and was fascinated by her unique and practical thinking process. When you read this excellent book, you will see that the author validates all forms of thinking. She shows the reader how to optimize every thought, feeling, situation, and process. Before I read Optimal Thinking, I was a typical positive thinker. I still use and value positive thinking, however I recognize that Optimal Thinking is the language of my best self, and do my best to use it often.

Basically, this book is about motivation and the optimization process, on an individual and organizational level. You make the choice to be your best regardless of the circumstances, and Optimal Thinking is the vehicle.

Optimal Thinking is easy to read and the examples apply to all situations. Whereas many books tell you to ignore or flee from negativity, Dr. Glickman explains how to best deal with it. We purchased this book for our employees, and the results have been phenomenal. If you or your organization function suboptimally from time to time, do not pass on this book.
  • Meryl Stone (MSL quote), USA   <2007-01-19 00:00>

Optimal Thinking is a wonderful book that shows us how to make the most of personal and business situations. Glickman explains the advantages and shortcomings of both negative and positive thinking. She cautions the reader against wishful thinking when the cost and probability of failure are high. She also explains that if we don't maximize a situation, we don't complete it, and are left with unexplored options.

We dicover how to use the language of our best self - Optimal Thinking - to optimize everything that crosses our path. We learn how to use Optimal Thinking to optimize verbal messages and non-verbal gestures (including eye movements). Glickman states: "Neurolinguistic programming experts study how verbal and nonverbal communications affect our nervous system and behavior." Glickman then explains how to use Optimal Thinking in conjunction with neurolinguistic programming to optimize communication.

The Optimal Thinking roadmaps for resolving turbulent feelings are wonderful. I use these roadmaps for myself (when I am upset and off track) and with others to help them find their best solutions.

Glickman states that we are all Optimal Thinkers, but most people don't use this peak form of thinking consistently. The book is filled with simple roadmaps and concise examples to show us how to use Optimal Thinking consistently, to continually put our best foot forward even when others attempt to rain on our parade.

Optimal Thinking is a superbly written book that offers fail-safe roadmaps to stop settling for second best in business, personal relationships, and life in general. The book is easy to read and the information is rock solid. The book shows you how to go beyond managing and improving emotions, relationships, tasks, opportunities, and results. You learn how to optimize them. I also recommend the "100 Day Optimal Thinking Audio program for Permanent results" for powerful action-packed personal and career optimization in an entertaining format. And if you have an opportunity to attend an Optimal Thinking seminar, don't miss it. You will welcome every situation as an opportunity to be your best!
