Wanna know how the other half lives? From the viewpoint of a teenager? Then Gossip Girl will provide! One part internet gossip site and two parts rousing commentary from rich Upper East Side private school-ers. Gossip Girl is a lot of fun; the characters are smart, spoiled, selfish and too big for their britches; and the storyline, which takes place in the matter of a week or so, spotlights the best mix of teen angst in a grown-up world.
Serena van der Woodsen is back in town after a year of boarding school in Connecticut, and things couldn't be worse. Seems something is amiss with Serena's old friends. Blair, Isabel and Kati have better things to do besides wonder what Serena did to get kicked out of boarding school. However, not everyone is upset over Serena's return: Blair's boyfriend, Nate, is having a hard time being faithful; Nate's slimy friend, Chuck, is hoping the rumors of Serena's promiscuity are true; and Jenny, Dan and Vanessa find things in common with their new friend.

Not sure if this book would be for the young adult set or not, but it would be a great book either way. A different teen novel where no one gets carded, everyone smokes and fundraising parties (complete with Kate Spade goodie bags) are hosted by illustrious teenage committees. Very quick read and simple writing that doesn't sound like a high school essay. I recommend this novel with two manicured thumbs up! Hope there is a sequel in the works.

I'll admit it, I hardly ever read, unless it's required for school, that is. But a friend highly recommended the Gossip Girl Series to me, so I thought I'd give it a try. By the time I had finished the first 10 pages, I was hooked: I read the first book in a day and by the end of the week had finished #2 and #3. The engrossing characters make you either love them or hate them, but either way, you're just dying to find out what will happen to them next. I recommend this book to anyone who likes the teen-series genre (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Sloppy Firsts, etc.) If you enjoy books like that, there is No Way you won't love the Gossip Girl series!!

I am not entirely clear as to what type of topsy turvey world considers this a "teen book". While it deals with young people and some relevant situations, it deals with all of them in a fairly adult way. I do not think that the subject matter is too mature for a teen of sixteen or seventeen, however, I strongly suspect that this series biggest followers are a tad bit younger than that. So if you are a parent interested in buying this book for someone younger than sixteen I suggest you wait a year or two. Okay... that was my PSA.

    Now, onto my actual review.

Much to my surprise, Gossip Girl started off a little slow, but toward the middle it picked up and drew me right into the high class world of these privileged young girls. I think Cecily Von Ziegesar has created a series with a very honest look into the world and the minds of not only upper class teenagers but teenagers in general. It highlighted how even the most apparently put together and well polished girls can be insecure, and most importantly, human.

Gossip Girl is also chock-full of juicy tidbits referring to it's main characters that will keep you wanting more. Von Ziegesar will surely have readers of all ages coming back for more. Definitely a very guilty pleasure!

The characters in Gossip Girl are like real people. When you get to know them you realize there's still a lot to learn, so you want to keep reading about them.
These kids drink a lot and some of them smoke pot, but the story isn't about alcohol or drugs, it's about growing up. These teenagers could be your friends.

The best part of the book is how well-written it is. It's about teenagers, but it isn't "written down" to their level. The author obviously knows what she's talking about. Is she the Gossip Girl?

Ok, here's the deal: I know what's from right to wrong. I'm a 17 year old teen, I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs like these girls in Gossip Girl does. Why? Because I know what's right and wrong. This is a horrible book for teens who are just being their lives and eager to try everything. It makes those things look cool and hip, but it's not. However, it's a good Fiction book to read. The characters are catty, and fun to read about. Blair is an annoying twit who's jealous of Serena, and loves Nate, a total pothead. Serena just came back from boarding school, now people make up lies about her getting kicked out, having a baby, doing drugs, having sex. Serena isn't that innocent, but I don't think she's as bad as people claim. There's also Veronica, Dan (who's in love with Serena), and Dan's sister, Jenny (my favorite character). It's a fun book to read, but not recommended for younger people, in my opinion.

Gossip Girl is about a girl named Blair. She is living the high life. Living in New York, she is in on all of the fashion trends and gets all of her clothes from the best stores around. Nate is her boyfriend. When her friend Serena returns from boarding school after being kick out, everything changes. Blair, Serena, and Nate used to be best friends with each other. Before Serena left for boarding school Nate and Serena hooked up. After Serena went off to boarding school Nate and Blair started going out. After finding out that Nate and Serena had hooked up, Blair did not want Serena to be back. Knowing that if he could, Nate would want to get with Serena, made Blair jealous. Blair was also jealous of Serena since she was getting most of the attention. People are wondering why she got kicked out of boarding school and everyone is hearing different stories that is making her even more popular than she already is.

I thought that this was a really good book. Even though they are older than me, I can relate to it. Gossip, gossip, and even more gossip. That is what goes on at middle school, along with high school like in this book. It was sort of hard at the beginning to get into, but after reading a few chapters I loved it and wanted to read the next one right away.

No, Gossip Girl is not deep. No, it's not thought-provoking. No, it's not awe-inspiring. No, it's not literature.
What is it? It's easy to read. It's guilty pleasure. It's relaxing. It's fun.

Sometimes you need to take a break. Sometimes I don't want a book that makes me think or a book that I have to spend time on to understand. You know the feeling. You may be an avid reader, you may adore Steinbeck and Hugo- I do. But sometimes you may feel tired and, voila. Gossip Girl is here. It's fun and juicy and simple. It wasn't /meant/ to be literature, nor was it supposed to inspire teenagers to become more spoiled or bratty- it's supposed to be a good and amusing read.

Don't take it seriously, you shouldn't live like the kids in the book. But I think it undermines teenagers' intelligence when people rant about how it's a horrible example and parents should be warned- after reading this book, I for one did not feel the urge to go blow $300 on a pair of pants or smoke a joint. Most can discern between fact and fiction, good literature and fun trash. This isn't half so bad as most cheesy romance on the shelves- while not Fitzgerald or Salinger, von Ziegesar isn't too bad an author as far as the actual writing style goes.

Nonreaders beware! You'll even be hooked on this becoming of age masterpeice about love, friendship, and betrayal!
Think of an ordinary plain life. Kinda like toast. Now let's scoop a whole bunch of icecream, whipped cream and dump it on that ordinary peice of toast, with a cherry on top. This is like the life of Blair Wardolf, the snobbiest, prettiest, meanest, most popular girl in school. Like her friends, she lives in a huge apartaments on New York City's upper east side, which are decorated by famous designers, has an endless amount of spending money, and has an extreme taste for being overly dramatic. But everybody's human. For a year she has been the most desired girl in Constance Billard, until fate takes a tragic turn on her too-good-to-be-true life when her old best friend, Serena Van der Woodsen pops up in town. The only girl Blair has ever envied, the only girl whol shines brighter than her, the only girl who can take her precious boyfriend "Nate" away from her, the only girl who knows everything about Blair has come to steal everybody's boyfriend, and to steal away the spotlight from Blair. Rumor's start flying about Serena's dissapearance when Serena left her extravagant life behind for France, and got kicked out of boarding school. But no one knows the real truth about what things Serena did in France, and Blair surprisingly got along better without her. Will Blair and Serena become the inseperable too they are famous for, or does jeolousy split them apart for good? Read and find out.

Cecily vn Ziegesar has conjured up prefect examples of how teenagers go through everyday problems.

Gossip Girl is written by: Cecily Ziegesar. This book is a realistic ficton. Blair, Nate, Isabell, and Katie all live in NYC and go to single sex private schools. Blairs old best friend Serena is back from boarding school and Blair is not happy because she no longer the smartest or the prettist.
This is a great book it is a series of 7 almost 8 books. After I finished the first book I HAD to go get the next one. Once you start reading these books you can't stop. This book is for someone that can read all of them because each one stops at a spot where you have to get the next one. So if you are planning on reading this book make sure you can read them all. Hope you like my review!
