This is one of my 10 month old's very favorite books. When he goes to his little bookshelf, this is the book he invariably pulls down and flips though. When I read it to him, he is totally riveted. When he flips through it by himself, I see him touching the ladybugs (since they're 3 dimensional) and exploring the holes on the left.
This book is brilliant and works on many levels. It's very melodic (great rhyming verses w/out being too sing-song-y). Example: "Ten little ladybugs, sitting on a vine. Along came a caterpiller, then there were..." turn the page and you get "nine little ladybugs...."
Plus, you've got each number on the page represented 4 ways - on the right, you see how many ladybugs remain (i.e., 10 of them). On the left, you've got the number displayed ("10"), plus the holes add up to the same number, and then the verse at the bottom has the number written out ("ten little ladybugs...")
All the characters throughout the book (the caterpillar, the grasshopper, the turtle, etc.) show up at the end so you it's not like they come & go and are forgotten, and each page is beautifully illustrated. The book is also very well put together and I don't fear that the ladybugs are going to come off when my son grabs them. This book is very well used in our house and it's still holding up incredibly well. We highly recommend it! |

This book is my son's favorite. We read it at least three times every day!! The pictures are enticing and beautiful, and the meter makes it as fun to read as a song is to sing. He also likes to touch the ladybugs and see them disappear, one by one, with the turn of every page. I like that it teaches numbers and backward counting in a fun way that really pulls him in and excites him about reading. |

The best part about this book is the plot: as various animals "come along" the ladybugs begin disappearing one by one. On the first read, you'll start to worry that you'll have to explain the "circle of life" when you get to the end, but alas there is a happy ending. And it doesn't seem to occur to little kids (just learning to count) that the lady bugs might be getting eaten, but the idea keeps me entertained every time.
The book has great colorful artwork and the bugs stick out. My daughter loves to touch the bugs as she counts - I think having something to touch helps the kids move from just pointing around and saying numbers to actually counting objects. |

The cover of this work will catch the eye of any young reader. Ten little ladybugs glow out at you making you want to see what is inside the cover of this book, and you are not disappointed.
We start off with our ten ladybugs, but as different preditors come the number keeps getting lower and lower until we just have one that makes it home. This story shows little ones how nature works. It is colorful and educational as well. |

The lady bugs pop out of the page in this cute book. As you turn a page, the lady bugs fly away. You start with ten and gradually count backwards.
The colors are bright and cheerful. The lady bugs are sturdy. However, word of warning, we have had to buy a second book because the lady bugs do come off if your child is determined enough.
Enjoy. |

This book is particularly good at helping toddlers to count down (10, 9, 8, etc.), which is more difficult than counting up. The ladybugs are cute and the book is delightful; however, my favorite counting books are "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" by Dr. Seuss and "One, Two, Three: This Book's for Me" by Stuart Samuel because of the very enjoyable rhyming. |

At four months of age, this was the first book that our son really took note of, allowing us to read all the text. He loved to touch the three-dimensional ladybugs on each page. The paintings are colourful and original, and now that our little boy is over 18 months old, he likes to name the creatures on each page, and point them out to us. It is also a counting book (for future reference). This sort of book is preferable to a book about one character. For the baby-toddler, variety is key. Each page has a new bug or creature to see. Babies like repetition, but they are not interested in page after page of the same picture. There's a fun rhythmn to the simple text, but it's the colourful illustrations and three-dimensional ladybugs that we've enjoyed most. It's a special book that we keep on the night-time books shelf, or the mum-and-me-in-the-afternoon table. Costs a bit more than Barney or Elmo, but worth it! |

This is a great, simple book for babies and toddlers. We started reading this story to our daughter when she was about 1 year old. She was able to count the "little ladybugs" before she turned 2 years old!
This is a very interesting book for toddlers because the ladybugs are raised plastic bugs that are fixed to each page. The book starts with 10, and with each page, decreases by one. The simple story allows kids to enjoy the illustrations, words, and play with the bugs. |

My daughter and I like to read this book at bedtime. It's not too long but not too short either. The illustrations are beautiful and we know and love all the words. Just an added bonus - it also has helped us to learn counting down from 10. I recommend this book to all mom's who love to read to their kids but don't want to spend the entire night at it. |

This was the first book that held my son's attention - at 3 months! It still is one of his favorites. Now that he's almost 1 year old, he like to touch the ladybugs and turn the pages. We read it over and over. An excellent book! |
