Clever story with great illustrations. It's a sweet way to explain that Mamas love their children and are there for them even if they can't come right away. We got this book when our daughter was around 9 months old, and she's a year old now. It's one of the few books we have for which she will sit still. She loves to look at it, and is not bothered by any of the pictures. This might be something that will bother some babies, but it doesn't bother ours at all. She also likes to flip through the pages herself and look at it after we're done reading. I think it will be a favorite for a long time. My friend who babysat one night also loved it and wants it for her son.

My three year old loves this book. She asks for this book over and over. Good rhyming and great illustrations. The reviewers who gave it a low rating because it supposedly shows the mama llama being a "bad mom" are crazy. All the book is saying is that kids need to learn to be patient-that moms have things they need to do. I especially love the person that says parents should save all the chores until after they've rocked their child to bed-rocking a child to bed is what you do to babies-if you rock a 3 year old to bed every night have fun rocking them then until they are 12. This is just a story-every book doesn't need to have some deep message. Let's get real.

This fun read-aloud speaks to the frustration we all feel when things don't happen quite fast enough. Mama Llama is supposed to bring Baby Llama a drink of water, but she's washing dishes, then the phone rings and then baby llama drama erupts! But Mama Llama calms her impatient baby and tucks him back in with a hug and a kiss. Brightly colored illustrations and rhyming language are sure to be a hit with the preK and K set.

This is a fantastic book. It became an instant favorite with my daughter, who was 9 months old when she received it as a gift. She is now 11 months and carries it to me over and over. It has wonderful cadence and rhythm, not too many words to a page, and bright, vivid pictures. Although some of the reviews suggest that the story is about a neglectful mother, I found Mama Llama to be very loving. She is teaching her son to be independent and to understand that he is loved even when his mother isn't cuddling and coddling him.

I have a four year old and twin 2 year old boys and they all love this book. The two year olds ask to read it again and again (I got it from the library and now have to buy it because they miss the book so much now that I've returned it!). I had actually worried that they might be scared by the picture where the baby llama is crying for his mama, but they didn't find it scary, and we actually used the book to talk about how they shouldn't be scared - the final message in the book is really important for all kids to understand - that even if mommy isn't in the room, mommy is close by and loves you. I think it's a great book...
