These stories in this book are truly incredible and very inspiring. Each one relates a personality trait that is easily identified. The authors contend that you can manage your career... and really your life... by understanding your own definiton of success and your own strengths. It's a simple but powerful concept. The book does a great job of getting you a variety of perspectives on what success might look like.
One of the authors is blind but you really get the feeling he's never considered it a handicap. Considering how successful he is and who makes up his circle of friends and colleagues, his story alone is worth buying the book. |

When learning to be successful, there is nothing like a great example to model.
Greenberg and Sweeney are great models of success themselves. But they don't stop there. This book is chocked full of examples and stories from some of the most successful people on the planet.
I've been living with my own definition of success for decades, but "Succeed on Your Own Terms" was still an inspiring read and I recommend it to anyone striving for more success in life, business, or whatever YOUR definition brings. |

Reading this book will encourage anyone who is feeling a little lost in their career. We often get caught up in the same definitions of success and this book gives a much broader view of what success is. It also offers a very practical way of thinking about success so you can apply it towards your own life.
Buy the book just to take their special assessment. It's unbelievable how much feedback you get back. There's a special code in the book that allows you to take their on line assessment and these guys are real pros. Many top companies such as Avis, FedED and BMW use their assessment tools. I enjoyed it because it's a fun read as well. |

What an inspiring read! The authors have done an incredible job of combining real-life motivational stories with hard-hitting, thought-provoking questions to get you focused on what "success" really means to you.
While most of us obviously can't relate to the specifics of each person's story, (such as being in the Auschwitz concentration camp, climbing Mt. Everest, being the shortest NBA player of all time, or having Michael Ovitz want to buy our business while we're still in high school) the qualities and lessons throughout these stories easily translate to anyone's life, providing perspective and the encouragement to make important changes. This is a great book! |

This book is great, in that is has something for everyone. The subjects of the book are very candid about their mistakes and how they found their paths. It makes you realize that you have to live every moment. Also, as a manager, it helped me better understand the strengths of my team members and what I can do to help them work more effectively.

We've all wondered what it is we could to make us wake up every morning and thrive. We see others around us who are successful, who love what they do. And if we're honest with ourselves, we all want that. Maybe some think they want the fame or the money, but I'm pretty convinced that we all want to find that "thing" that drives us. This book is chock-a-block filled with inspiring stories of folks from all walks of life who followed what we come to know as their defining quality of success. And we learn from each and every one of them. Herb Greenberg and Patrick Sweeney work for Caliper (Herb is the CEO) and Caliper has always conveyed the sense that it's more important to know what a person can do than what they have done. Now, imagine how that could transform the welfare lines. So forego whatever summer feel-good movie Hollywood is pushing. Buy this book. Heh, it's a bargain when you consider you get a free $200 personality assessment that may put you on your road to success. |

Motivational Inspiration. With so many books that tell you how to succeed, it's always nice to see a fresh approach to an age old question, how to succeed. This thought provoking books gives real life testimonials and examples. It doesn't leave you with questions following more questions, it gets down to the nitty gritty and gives you real life answers. Provocative perspective about what success might mean to you versus someone else, this is a must read book. |
