Winget takes a completely different approach to getting people to improve their lives from most other self help books. Many of his suggestions run completely counter that of other self help gurus and many of them are intended to be rude wake-up calls.

If you are open-minded, I don't think that Winget's ideas will seem as offensive as he makes them out to be, but I do think they will get you thinking about the way you approach things in your own life and how you might like to change your approach.

This book is highly recommended for anyone who is ready to make an effort on their own part to make positive changes in their lives.

Sure, this guy is pretty rude and in-your-face, but I can't say that he isn't honest. The part in the book where he talks about relationships is well worth the price of this book. To give you an idea of what he talks about when it comes to relationships, it's basically this: You don't need anybody, and if you do, the relationship is doomed. He talks about how people need their own space and their own friends, not to be too clingy or needy, and how independence attracts others. That chapter is the best advice on relationships I've ever read, and I've read quite a few.

This book made me laugh and made me think. It is a great read and a great change from so many of the other self-help books that read like sermonettes. This book is both entertaining and thought provoking. I laughed out loud.

Larry Winget is a one-of-a-kind guy. This book is a dramatic departure from the sappy, self-help books I've both read and perused. This book is entertaining and it challenges you to do something with your life both personally and professionally. It made me laugh out loud, but it also helped me identify changes I can and will make in my own life.

The author's in your face & tells it like it is approach is refreshing. Now, this is a good thing if you want positive results in your life. This is not a 'feel-good' book about positive thinking, although you can tell Larry sincerely cares about your success progress. It's about taking responsibility to manage change in a positive way. Only you can do it. No excuses. Get after it!

In the interest of full disclosure please know that Larry Winget is a friend and, in some ways, a competitor of mine. I've got a book out right now and I'd love for you to buy it, but I have to say that Winget's "Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life" is possibly the greatest single motivational book I've ever read. If you are sick of sugar-coated,unrealistic motivational crap then you will love this book. If you LOVE sugar-coated, unrealistic motivational crap then you need this book. Winget pulls no punches, makes you mad, and gives the reader an extremely useful kick in the truth. Love it or hate it this book will not let you get out without making you think about how you live your life. My guess is that very few readers will finish this book and say "Well, that was interesting." You will more likely finish it and change your life. A kick ass read if there ever was one!

A truly original look at personal development and self improvement. If you are into the "airy-fairy" approach to personal development, this book is not for you. I think his self-designation as the world's only irritational speaker is right on. He will tick you off, knock you off your comfortable chair, and then smack you in the back of the neck. Why? Probably because you needed it! I know I did! This is my new favorite. Get it. Read it. Buy a few for your friends.

Imagine walking on the railroad tracks in a state of bliss, unaware of a train heading in your direction. Life feels good, albeit a bit empty. Suddenly, your big brother (the bully!) pushes you off the tracks with a hard shove. He hollers about your stupidity, laziness and indifference. In this fresh slap of a self-help book, author Larry Winget becomes your surrogate big brother. He delivers an unconventional helping of advice with punch, insight and a few well-deserved mental smacks. No subject is sacred. From religion to money, Winget gets into your business with practical, thoughtful suggestions. The text, which includes space to take notes and write down self-help action plans, is a workbook on motivation and drive. It works best when Winget advises you about employment, money and relationships. It's less successful when he preaches about murkier issues of religion, spirituality and teenage sex. Even when he oversteps, Winget is entertaining and helpful. (Don't miss the insightful, funny dedication.) we recommend this book to harried professionals, underachievers and anyone who needs a good mental thrashing to get up and get going. Now sit up straight.

This book is really good. Straight to the point. No psychobabble. No touchy-feely woo-woo. Yes it stings to read it. But the no-holds barred approach is really unique to self-help books. The only other book I've read like it is Psychology of Call Reluctance by Dudley & Goodson. I guess it takes books like these to cut through the crap and get results. If you've grown tired of sleaze balls like Jeffry Gitomer and weary of braggards like Tom Hopkins, Larry Winget's kick ass book may be just what you need. A straight up shot of reality. Excellent book.
