MSL Pointer Review: This is a great book about leadership and management, but what makes it an all-time inspiring read is, it's about the life of an ordinary man with a humble begining who went on to live his American Dream!

Iacocca's career weaves like a great prize-fight. At once on top of his game helming one of the biggest corporations in the world, he is knocked down from his post, only to turn the tables by having a rival company achieve ascendancy and provide great competition to the previous trainer, manager, promoter - Ford.

Iacocca's description of the revitilization of Chrysler with a more defined focus and quality line of products, sensing the increasing Japanese domination in this arena, is well described. While the book doesn't have the flair and grit of entrepreneurial triumphs and voyages, such as Walton's or Branson's biography, it does give a good account of the great leadership characteristics necessary to triumph and run a Fortune 500 corporation after demoralizing circumstances.

After seeing this on the Goodwill shelf for years, I finally sunk in the 99 cent investment, in the hardcover no less! It was worth every cent.

Iacocca provides an fascinating view of history from the inner workings of a man inside some of America's largest corporations. Certainly Iacocca's ego shines through as his own story unfolds, yet one can see hints of its necessity and the protection it offers him in the course of his life.

Iacocca traces Lee Iacocca's rise through the ranks of Ford and his tremendous part in the turn around of Chrysler. As the stories are told, Mr. Iacocca weaves his pearls of wisdom for those seeking to succeed as he did. Iacocca the salesman is ever present. Iacocca read even some 20 years after its original printing continues to provide valuable insight into such modern issues as gas prices, trade imbalance and unemployment.

A insightful book even for someone not interested in the auto industry.

If Business Executives had a Hall of Fame, Iacocca would probably have a floor dedicated to him.

Iacocca life was a wilder then a roller coast, his failures made headlines across the nation and his successes were larger then life. He spent eight years as the running Ford only to fired in his prime, only to enjoy revenge in an almost truly capitalistic way by taking an another company out of bankruptcy and making it succeed again.

It's the story of an ordinary guy who wanted to design cars and instead decided to sell them. Along the way he ended up as President of one company and Chief Executive at another one and became a household name all the while.

Iacocca is interesting and inspiring, a great book for business men and women and even better book for ordinary folk just like he was.

This book has inspirational genius written all over it. There is incredible depth beyond "his story" and gives a good idea of what goes on in the brilliant mind of Mr Iacocca. He speaks of leading others, seeing projects through adversity, triumph & tradgedy! I say his true brilliance as a man is that he knows how to get what he wants, by working on the wants and needs of those around him. I've never, read about, heard about or encountered a person who exemplifies the word leader more then Mr. Iacocca does. He is a true genius in every aspect of the word.

I remember being totally overwhelmed by the story of Iacocca when I finished reading the Chinese translation of this book many years ago when I was not even in business. Iacocca's revival of Chrysler seemed so unbelievable. This is a good example of how strong leadership can make a difference.

I have realized afterwards that leadership is a rare quality not only demanded by business, but by nonprofits and governments.

Business schools are supposed to produce great leaders, but increasingly people pay money to go to business schools for for being trained up for leadership challenges, but for very commercial gains.

This book remains one of my favorite leadership reads and it actually prompted me to embark on a business career.

I highly recommend this book to all the aspiring managers.
