Our Father, who art in heaven
    Hallowed be Thy name
    Thy kingdom come
    Thy will be done
ON EARTH, as it is in heaven

This book is not merely about Don's experience in heaven, but moreso how heaven is on earth as well, it is all around us, in the people we meet, the loved ones that surround us, the strangers who pray on others behalf.

God's will provided many miracles throughout Don's sharing of his story.

For those of you disappointed by the entire book not being about "heaven" as you know it or think you know it, you are missing the message. Truth is, none of us will really know until we pass from glory in this temporal world to the glory of our resurrected spirit.

The book was told in a manner that is very down to earth and REAL. Yes, his story is inspiring and should inspire others, not only if you are on the receiving end of a tragedy such as this, but moreso if you can be one of those who help others.

    Two greatest commandments -
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and spirit
Love your neighbor as you would love yourself

Follow those two and you will find how blessed your life can be

I thank him for sharing his story!

Don Piper was killed in a horrific car accident after being hit head on by an 18 wheel truck. His car was completely crushed with even the roof ripped off. He was pronounced dead at the scene. They couldn't even get his body out of the car during that time. He was dead for 90 minutes. During this time a Baptist Preacher, who had been at the same religious convention that Don had been at, came to the road block, and when appraised of the situation, said he would like to pray with the body. The cop said: "He's dead!" The Preacher said he still wanted to pray with the body. Finally, the cop allowed him to go to the scene of the accident. The preacher said, that the Lord was directing him to pray for the dead man. The Lord also told the Preacher, to pray specifically, that Don would be delivered from unseen injuries, meaning brain and internal injuries. When the Preacher got to the car, it was so mangled, he had to crawl in the trunk, and stick his hand through an opening, to put his hand on Don's dead shoulder. During this time, Don had passed into heaven. Don would later tell of the beauty of heaven in illuminating detail. In good conscience, I must point out to prospective readers, that the time in heaven, is a minuscule part of this amazing story. I feel, that the agonizing recovery Don went through, when he miraculously came back to life on earth, after ninety minutes, is the reason you should read this book. Don's body was mangled beyond belief! In fact, bones from his leg and arm, were "missing". Probably thrown into the lake, from the sheer force of the accident that occurred on a bridge by a lake. In my opinion, Don's fight to survive, through constant, undulating, unbearable pain, which made him want to go back, to the beauty and tranquility, of the Heaven that he saw first hand, is the real epicenter of this story. Amazingly, the only part of Don's body, that wasn't virtually broken, torn, or mangled, was his brain and internal organs, that the Preacher, directed by the Lord, specifically prayed for.

On February 13, 2003, I almost died, during brain tumor surgery. An operation, that was supposed to take 4 hours, took 8 ½ hours, due to bleeding that occurred in my brain. I am blessed, and feel I was saved for a purpose. Any time I have an opportunity, to talk with anyone going to go through brain surgery, I go out of my way, to share my experience, with the patient, or their family. I firmly believe no doctor, can get a brain tumor patient, prepared, for what they are going to go through, better than I can. That is the same "gift" Don has, with his unique, extremely painful, injuries. Many times, Don has stated, how he wished he could go back to heaven, due to all his pain, but realizes, this gift is why he was saved. This story, pulls absolutely no punches, when it comes to how depressed Don was, and how hard he was to be around. In closing, I feel this book will be more helpful, to people and their families, who have survived terrible accidents, or face difficult, scary surgery,in the effort to "live", than to assure people, about the beauty of Heaven!

With more than 34 printings and a million copies sold, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN follows the unforgettable story of Don Piper, whose car was crushed by a semi-truck on the way home from a conference. When the medical personnel examined his body, they pronounced him dead, but an hour and a half later he was discovered to be very much alive. What happened in between?

Piper tells of his time in heaven - the people he encountered, the sights he saw, the sounds he heard. Interestingly, the first person he interacted with in heaven was his grandfather. Then he met others. His heavenly experience was interrupted when he returned to his body. Due to some unusual events, a friend of Piper's actually discovered that he was still alive. Once taken to a hospital, Piper began what can only be described as a hell-on-earth experience of recovery from the accident.

Much of the book is spent describing the rehabilitation process - the extended days in the ICU, the painful daily medical regimen, the depression that nearly crushed his soul. Though facing promises that he would never walk again, Piper slowly recovered, but not without the help of countless friends and loved ones.

In a particularly gripping account, Piper shares just how hard it was to accept any help. As a pastor, he had spent most of his days giving to others rather than receiving. When church members offered to do even the littlest of things for him, he refused. Finally, an 80-year-old preacher told Piper, "You need to get your act together. You're just not doing a very good job."

When Piper asked the preacher to explain, he said, "You've spent the better part of your life trying to minister to other people, to meet their needs, to help them during times of difficulty and tragedy and now you're doing a terrible job of letting these people do the same thing for you. Don, it's the only thing they have to offer you, and you're taking that gift away from them."

Piper eventually let someone get him a magazine. That one act opened the door for allowing others to love and serve him and a deeper healing to take place. Ultimately, Piper was able to walk, and his story became a catalyst for encouraging and challenging countless others.

Though he has been through so much, Piper still carries many "why" questions with him - questions not just about near-death experiences, but of why God allowed him to die in a car wreck and go to heaven only to be sent back. And why the constant pain? Even without answers, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is a book packed with hope - a reminder that, despite our losses and pain, God is faithful and true.

No matter what heartache, pain or loss you may have faced, you'll find comfort in Don Piper's story. There's a reason this book has sold over a million copies, and hopefully it will sell a million more.

(I gave this book 4/5 stars only because the majority of the book is about his recovery, but 5 stars for his short but amazing account of heaven.) The beginning reads really fast from his accident to his amazing account of the outer gates of heaven and the rest of the book is about his recovery. The beginning is so good I had to reread again once I finished. If you don't buy this book, sit in a bookstore and read the first few chapters, read about how he was declared dead, prayed for, and his account of those 90 minutes. It's amazing, whether this guy really experienced this or not, I don't care, but somehow I oddly trusted Don Piper from page 1. I love that he waited 3 years to tell a friend what he experienced and his friend urged him to tell others; this is not your typical bright light story. The loved ones he met in heaven and all descriptions are very memorable. If you are dealing with struggles of long-term pain, this book will help you endure it after hearing about what Don went through and may give you a bit of strength. Don does go on and on about the power of prayer, rightfully so. He was declared dead, covered with a tarp, and a preacher several cars back in the traffic jam insisted he must pray for him, the cops finally gave in and let the stranger crawl into Don's crunched car and he reached as far as he could, put his hand on Don's shoulder and prayed and sang with a dead man. Don came back to life feeling a hand on his shoulder, someone holding his hand, and he was singing. Later Don was told... but nobody was holding your hand.

If your looking for something to renew your faith or just make you think about the Christian faith this book is for you. Its refreshing to read and not like other books about heaven. this book is very believable.

There is so much one could say about Don Piper and his glimpse of eternal life. The most important thing I can say is believers will feel his pain, participate in his joy, and crave his longing to go back "home." I left this book filled with excitement, peacefulness, and a longing to strengthen my own faith. Thank you Don for sharing your story. You have given many brothers and sisters in Christ a new perspective on this life and the one that will follow in our eternal "home." If anyone out there has any doubt about heaven and God I recommend this book along with your Bible. God bless.

What a testimony of faith and endurance! God really changed my view on life and my attitude toward life with Don's amazing testimony. Any one going through physical pain or any kind of hardship or know someone who is should really read a copy of Don's testimony. Don Piper shares his very personal account of his life after death and life after life that cannot be missed!

This book was well done, especially the part about his visit to Heaven. I would suggest that there was a little too much time given to his pain and suffering afterwards for me, but each to his own. I thought that would be nice had it been reduced a good bit and I just thought that went on for a little too much in the book, but it's most interesting reading and gives an insight not often found. His work toward helping others in the windup of the book was heart rending also. Good book, enjoyable. I'd recommend it for sure.
