This book was recommended to me by a female friend as a kind of "joke" read and, after finally getting around to reading it, I was pleasantly surprised at how fascinating AND insightful it was about the relations between men and women. Particularly fascinating was its presentation of what seems to "work" with so many women (that is, from the male point of view, in terms of getting and keeping their attention) as far as meeting them goes. How often have men been culturally trained during the "sensitive male" seventies and beyond to be "nice" and "understanding" and well, sensitive. This book basically blows these social constructs away, revealing what many men no doubt have always kind of sensed in their guts - that the phony little creeps and showoffs usually get the girl, at least initially. There are no doubt many serious psychological and sociological issues that could be explored in relation to the nature of gender relations and issues of power/control (the author fails to do this), but the basic point is that if a man wants to "frequently" attract the attention and interest of females, he needs to oftentimes go directly against what he has been taught by his mother, and not "just be himself." He needs to become the center of attention, to be the kind of guy who can give women the kind of direction and control that they seem to actually like more than men are often taught to believe.
In terms of people passing judgment on the nature of this process of "playing" women - it strikes me as funny that no one has brought up the obvious fact that women in bars and night spots (where this "playing" is taking place) are the quintessential "players" - waiting for myriads of men to come along and "make their night" by hitting on them, flattering them, feeding their seemingly never satiated need to have their egos stroked, and, let's be honest, basically paying for their evening out with their friends (usually buying the drinks and the snacks, etc..). At the end of the night, most of these guys never had a real chance, they were just being played. According to the likes of Strauss, it seems men are just catching on to the true nature of the game. |

What's not to love about the wicked storytelling by Neil Strauss? His two best selling biographies of Motley Crue and Jenna Jameson were both fantastic. His vivid descriptions of bizarre characters and situations have you right there backstage changing, well um, G strings in both books. The continual back and forth challenges between Nikki Sixx and Ozzy on tour are impossibly hilarious.
The Game is completely different, yet fits right into the same mold for Neil's chosen subject matters. The cast of characters are equally bizarre and narcisstic, and as always Neil is the outsider who is brought in to the inner loop. His experiences, increase of social skills, and growth as a man make a fantastic story. If you're here to learn how to be smooth with the ladies, the story is live field reporting of the PUA textbook called The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed.
The other must own bestseller for PUA's is The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho, written by a seriously intelligent, crude and funny psychologist. At times I could swear it's ghostwritten by Dennis Miller. Get all 3 books. |

Let me say I am somewhat biased, since I'm a huge Neil Strauss fan, dating back from his Rolling Stone days. He writes like the stranger sitting next to you in a hotel lobby bar, who spins tales and advice like a long lost friend. He has you totally enthralled and silent from the word go. Great author.
This is one of the more fascinating books I have read in a long time. No matter how great your skills are with women, whether you are married, divorced, or single, there are some brilliant social interaction skills and tools taught. Contrary to what women assume, what men truly discover in these books is not cheesy lines and assorted gimmicks that create results. It's improving your people skills. Their purpose is the break the social barriers that women always have, and get them to stop worrying about blowing us out to save face with their insecure girlfriends, and actually listen and be curious about who we are.
In addition to this book, I would also highly recommend The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho, which is filled with hilarious analysis and psychological dating techniques. In reading both, I've rediscovered what I kind of already knew; attracting women is all about how you carry yourself; the confidence you show in your look, personality, and attitude. The words really mean nothing. It's funny how women always put down these books and label men "players" who are good at the skills, as if excelling at something is an insult. You would think they would encourage men to improve our social presentation. Then again, when have women ever been logical? |

A great and fascinating true story that delivers in both originality and content. The best part is Strauss writing. Everyone likes an underdog, and the short, bald guy (Strauss) who discovers his skills with the babes is no exception. The lessons are told in story fashion, and the characters, trials and tribulations amongst these wacky guys and their successes are seriously interesting.
Underneath the surface it is a serious self-help guide for men who are shy and nervous around women. It will dramatically improve your confidence, first impression, build social status and value, and improve your social marketing with the ladies.
Guys who are great with the ladies always get a bad rap. Men are jealous, and women hate themselves for being so attracted to them. But when girls find out the guy did research to improve his skills, oh my, he's branded a jerk, a player, sleazy pick up artist, basically scum. Meanwhile, Cosmo, Oprah, and everything under the media sun, from print to TV teaches women how to work men. It's a joke.
I would also highly recommend The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed, which is sort of the textbook used for the skills in the Game. Also, another pickup guide book I just reviewed called The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho, which is written for guys who already have skills looking for the extra edge. It has a great angle of showing guys with money how to set up an asset protection guide pre-marriage.
There's no reason for men not to put the cards in their favor, and these are the best books to do the job. You'll hear yourself wishing they had come out ten years ago. |

This is a fascinating tale of a guy with marginal skills with the ladies (despite fame), who sets out on a life changing mission to master picking up women. I dare you to try and not get hooked in the first few pages. The characters are philanderers, gigolos, wannabes, braggarts, and every dysfunctional category in between. Their quest is obvious, and thrust in your face; to sleep with as many beautiful women as possible. The author Strauss has written several best sellers, as well as for Rolling Stone, and literally has no competition when it comes to spinning tales of this type.
If you look above, Amazon recommends maybe ten books in this genre. I recommend picking up the best three. The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed is written by the guru of the seduction community. His encyclopedia-like book reads like a PHD college course on getting laid; it lays out the techniques, terminology, and methodology that Strauss learns in the Game.
The other great one is The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho. This is a devious sexual persuasion guide for hooking up, written by a psych doc who cruised the nightclubs with great success for a decade. It also contains an asset protection guide to set up pre-marriage to shield you from divorce.
Get these three, and get ready to laugh and learn. Really interesting books.

The PUA community described in the Game is fascinating, brilliant, and totally bizarre. The lives they lead are anything but boring, and the characters experience huge extremes of highs and lows, as their skills and conquests increase, and the goals become ever more lofty. The schooling of Style (strauss) is a great story here. He draws you in with a self-deprecating fashion, as he finds the techniques to be borderline ridiculous, but uncannily effective. Coupled with the dysfunction crew of lady killers to creepy wannabes, you simply can't put this book down. When you finish, you feel like you have to take a shower.
These are predominately Nightclub pick up artists, and the methods they use are spot on. I bought this along with Tate's The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho, another fascinating entry by a no holds barred, pysch doc womanizer. Between these two books, they steer men to having smooth answers and approaches for every type of women and every situation you can think of. Girls will make fun of this stuff, but deep down they all will confess how it flows effortlessly, drawing them into their bedrooms. It works. Both books are highly recommended. |

This is a truly spectacular book. Period. However, as the reader follows Strauss's trasformation from geek to pickup artist, it is easy to forget some very important things. If you have any interest in duplicating the success you see in the character of The Game, REMEMBER THESE HARD FACTS:
The author was already a world famous music writer before his transformation
The author was already rich before his transformation.
The author had attended the best schools and been surrounded by highly successful people his entire life prior to the trasformation
The author spent four years doing NOTHING but learning how to pick up women (look it up in the online PUA community).
The author spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this project.
Everything in this book is true, and its not hard to find, meet, and talk to people who knew Strauss when this was going on. The stories are real, the irony is real, but the chances of the average person being able to duplicate the results on such a large scale are not likely.
This book is a sort of bible, a gateway to understanding the human psyche and condition better. TIP: Read every book that Strauss suggests in his own book. Starting with Anthony Robbins and NLP. Then watch politicans speaking on TV, using the same techniques you read about in The Game. This is world we're living in, and my suggestion is that being the player is better than being the played. Great reading! |

This is a riveting exploration of a frustrated male into the PUA community, full of sleazy lounge lizards and easy lounge women. The lives these guys are chest thumping great to bizarre. You'll stayed glued to their tales as their skills and closing of targets increase. In fact, Strauss's story is near impossible to put down, and shows the average guy some great shortcuts to the tedious to embarrassing task of using lines and posturing to attract and seduce.
When this book first came out it was an immediate bestseller. The feminists at the local Borders of course hid it, like every pro-male book. It took 3 different guys 15 minutes to find it hidden in the back of the store, and this was a top 10 seller! So I passed and bought it here at Amazon.
I would recommend this to anyone for the story aspect of it more than PUA stuff. It's simply a bit over the top to use in normal situations, and as Neil is a Rolling Stone writer you have to read it with rose colored glasses. As far as newer PUA guides, for psychosexual seduction tips, I'm highlighting Tate's The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho heavily.
For more story reading, make sure you also get Strauss' Motley Crue book The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band. I read that one straight through. |

It has you hooked in seconds. With each page turned, the fascinating to creepy villains and victims come alive. Often they're the same person. Drinks are shaken and stirred, skirts are pressed tight only to be ripped off. The lizard lounge stalkers chase and conquer insecure babe-a-licious celebrities in VIP rooms throughout Hollywood. With a quick google search, you'll find all the characters and techniques discussed, no matter how simple, strange, and bizarre, are all real. If you're like me, no matter how far removed you are from the PUA community, be prepared to read this stuff from start to finish, put it down, and come back an hour later and start all over again. Great stuff. |

Fascinating tale of a guy who despite having fame as a successful author, didn't secure the right ballsy attitude to get the ladies. (If you weren't aware, Strauss authored Jenna's autobiography, and his Motley Crue book The Dirt is phenomenal). Strauss' tale is a quest to get in panties, but ends up being a journey to find himself. How he gets there is by accident, and is accomplished by living vicarious through some seriously dysfunctional PUA's. Each character (who are all real) has enough quirks and weirdness to fill psych doc offices for months. As far as the overall theme of getting girls, while the results clearly work for these guys, you can't help noticing that they are slaying equally dysfunctional girls, who are easy prey to the techniques. But that's just fine. Most men chose nightclubs as their prime hunting grounds, so this book works.
There are dozens of books in this genre, I think combining Tate's The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho with The Game will cover all the hunting grounds and various skills needed for any guy to be a serious player. Great stuff, and make sure you buy The Dirt too. |
