Janet Esposito's book can help readers transform their previous negative experiences into golden new opportunities in sharing themselves through self-expression. In The SpotLight should become a handbook for people in the performing arts as well as those who are interested in succeeding in other occupations. Its exercises are a guide to developing communication skills that are essential to all relationships, both professional and personal. Janet Esposito has done a tremendous service to those whose potential has been limited by their social anxieties.

As a psychologist who specializes in treating people with social phobia and other anxiety based disorders, it gives me great pleasure to endorse "In the Spotlight". This is really a terrific book. Janet Esposito knows her subject matter and is truly an "expert" in the area. Also, her personal descriptions of her own feelings and experiences leave no doubt that she has felt the pain and discomfort associated with performing in public (ie.,being "in the spotlight").

Most importantly, Janet has devised a truly eclectic treatment program. It includes elements of CBT, and interpersonal psychotherapy, while emphasizing the importance of doing homework exercizes ("in vivo" practice). For anyone who takes it seriously, this program virtually cannot fail.

Finally, as someone who experienced public speaking anxiety for many years, I have a special appreciation for Janet's work. So much so, that I plan to do some work with her in the near future.

Folks, if you have this problem, buy the book, follow the program carefully and conscientiously, and you'll be on your way! Good luck.

Janet Esposito's "In the Spotlight" is a terrific resource for people who experience deep anxiety around public speaking. I've read several books on the subject, and I found Janet's to be the most helpful of them all. Her approach to overcoming this fear is based on her personal experience, professional research, and extensive work with others who share this fear. She incorporates the best elements of other techniques used to overcome anxiety, along with practical tips and a healthy dose of encouragement. Her book explores the emotional, psychological, and physical aspects of this condition, and really helps the reader create both hope and a realistic plan for moving beyond their fear. It's really a great help. Thank you, Janet!

Janet Esposito has written a book that goes right to the heart of the matter of performance anxiety. Other books about speaking or performing just don't seem to grasp how scary it can be to stand in front of an audience with `all eyes on you!", but Janet sure does! Her book is written in a caring and compassionate way, as she had suffered this fear herself and she clearly knows what it feels like to be this uncomfortable being `in the spotlight'. Her book is immensely helpful to anyone, speaker or performer, who has a high level of anxiousness in confronting a performance situation of any size, large or small! Not only is her book a life saver, but she has just come out with a phenomenal CD as a supplement to her book and it is nothing less than outstanding! It is called, In The SpotLight - Guided Exercises to Create a Calm and Confident State of Mind, Body, & Spirit While Speaking or Performing. The first time I listened, I felt an immediate sense of calm, confidence, and ease. The more I listened, the more I felt incredibly relaxed and positive. Do yourself a favor, and order both Janet's book and her CD, and never feel so overwhelmed by speaking or performing again!
