With its text-heavy layout and somewhat confusing "body type" divisions, this fashion guidebook is somewhat more complicated than many of the other style books on the market. Dedicated readers, however, will learn a lot from Farr, a former fashion editor who's written for InStyle, People, Harper's Bazaar and other publications. Drawing upon her years of experience as a personal stylist, Farr teaches readers what to look for and what to avoid when clothes shopping, how to evaluate their wardrobes and why certain heel heights and shapes work better for different body types. She also gives tips on finding a good tailor, measuring bra size, wearing makeup and accessorizing. Farr is funny, down to earth and savvy, and her guide exudes authority and experience.

Although involved, it is comprehensive and trend-resistant, meant to help women of any shape and size find clothes that flatter no matter what the runway season suggests.

I thought this book was great, it offered great and easy read and follow suggestions for properly dressing one's frame as it is right now, rather than ten pounds ago, or five pounds from now. I liked that it touched on all garments for women, rather than finding pants that fit, but not blouses that flatter, dresses that work, but ignores t-shirts. Overall I thought this was a good, basic, book, especially for those who are learning to dress all over again, or those who never quite learned. If you're one who considers yourself to be a fashionista, then you may find it full of things you already know.

I am no stylist, but I do love fashion. I have owned a few fashion books and endless style and fashion magazines. This little compact book is actually useful and the advice within is timeless. Some of my favorite topics included dressing for your body type, taking proper care of what you own, finding and using a tailor, and how to shop.

The author emphasizes buying a few classic, quality pieces over buying trendy and often poorly-constructed pieces. She is not against trends, but feels you should buy things that fit and flatter first and then add in trendy clothing and accessories that go with what you already have.

A definite must-have for fashion fans, this is an easy to read book for everyone.

I loved this book for its simplicty and seasonless advice on how to dress for my particular body type. Free of the by-the-minute fashion trends that come and go faster than I can keep track of, this book provides solid information on what is flattering on you and what is not. Farr breaks it down for you to a few simple body types and then walks you through the general things to look for when searching for clothes. She provides simple guidelines that allow you to go to the store and just looking at something on the hanger, be able to tell if it's going to help create that ever flattering vertical line. Though I would have appreciated more pictures to illustrate some of her advice, I found her book immensely helpful in re-working my own closet. I also purchased the Lucky Shopping Manual which was a great visual resource and really got my fashion-imagination going.

This book really takes the guess-work out of determining what to wear. It shows you what you should wear for your specific body shape, and also what you should avoid.

You start out by choosing your specific body type. Then you read that chapter to learn what types of clothes look best on you. It also tells you what clothing designers may offer the best selection for you. It goes even further by helping you decide what undergarments to purchase.

After all that information, you will receive tips on choosing a hairstyle, makeup appication, and skincare from the pros.

The last part of the book talks about what accessories to choose to complete the look. It covers all accessories from purses right down to jewelry.

I think that this book is a great buy!

The Pocket Stylist is a great resource for women who spend hours in dressing rooms only to reappear empty handed and frazzled. I took Farr's advice to heart and learned alot about the styles that make sense for my body type. I also learned how to find the right fit the first time. I've started to reassess my closet and after reading the book, feel empowered to make better fashion choices. This book is a great tool for women of every age and body type. It would make a great gift for a friend, family member or for yourself!

A fast read with a visually pleasing format and cute illustrations. Very handy for quick reference while shopping. I learned that I have been buying and wearing the correct clothing silhouettes for my body type (type B). Still, the author provided tips to slightly tweak my look and they have made a substantial difference. Most helpful for me is the specific information about better, bridge, and designer lines and even websites where specific brands and products are available. Before I was overwhelmed by brands when I walked in the store- this has been a truly great resource.

After reading at least 10 books on similar topic, i think this book is the best in terms of figuring out your body type (3 vs gazillions from other books), suggestions for each body type, and little tidbit of jems sprinkled through out the book in boxed texts.

it provides a very solid fundamental understanding of what works for different body types, it really helps a lot when you're shopping or looking at magazine or books such as Lucky shopping manual or Instyle instant style.

highly recommended read that won't go out of style for a loooooong time!

This little book packs inside all the information that can be found in most of the other style books. The author gives you easy to understand, no filler or fluff, straight-up style guidelines, suggestions and the reasoning behind her information. Plus, she gives websites and stores where the things she mentioned can easily be found. Keep in mind, however, that she does make mention of several lines that do not have stores outside many major markets and do not offer web sales. Also, some of the price points may be unrealistic if your favorite shopping experience is at Wal-Mart. All in all, a very good purchase.

This was a great find for me and I absolutely love it and refer to it often. I also found that it is beneficial for Plus Sizes. The book even lists specific brands and websites that cater to plus sizes. I know some people prefer photos but the drawings were actually more helpful to me than photos because you could better see the lines that compare to your body type. Not only is it helpful in finding the right clothing for your body type but it also helps you clean out and organize your closet, how to really shop without wasting a lot of time and money and how to select a great tailor. Add in the undergarment section and accessories and this truly is a Pocket Stylist to keep in your purse (along with your tape measure - which you will learn) whenever you go shopping!
