This book has revolutionized the way I cook for my toddlers (1 and 2) who are not even at the age where they can easily eat veggies like carrot and celery sticks. Realizing that peas and corn have little nutrition, I stumbled across this book and love the ideas it presents.

I now find myself putting vegetable purees in everything I make for my girls, just to get them their nutrition. However, I really like that the author suggests consistently putting vegetables within plain sight of your kids so they get used to the idea of veggies being on the table and part of meal time, and not just "hidden" in everything. But until my toddlers are able to eat salads like their dad and me, I'm glad I can at least give them the nutrition they need from whole foods that aren't processed.

A few minuses - there is a lot of low fat and fat free ingredients in the book, but little kids need quality fats in their diet, so I don't worry so much about buying everything "fat-free" because of the additives in products like that. Also, she uses margarine, which is almost equal in nutrition to plastic - a little butter will NOT kill my children, and at least it's natural, so I use small amounts of it instead of margarine. Third, sugar is sugar, and since I try to avoid giving it to my kids at all costs, I cut down the amounts of sugar she has in her recipes and add more than the required amount of vegetables. That makes the recipes a little less than "delicious" but I'm willing to sacrifice some of the taste in order to get my kids to eat something that DOES remotely taste like a vegetable and get used to having things that are not coated in sugar (or other bad stuff).

All in all, kids will learn to eat healthy if their parents eat healthy. If I'm eating a salad every night and present them with salad every night, they will eventually learn to eat it because it's good for them - not because it tastes like french fries.

This cookbook is great. It is informative, funny, and the recipes are actually not too difficult, which was my number one criteria. The illustrations are very retro. I have adopted a great deal of the suggestions from this book and I've only had it a short time. When I'm in a crunch, I add organic baby food from the jar instead of cooking and pureeing it myself. I'm amazed at what my family is eating!
