I love this book! The illustrations are immaculate, and it is worded so easily so kids can understand. The colors Barbara uses on the Grandfathers robes are so calming and beautiful. This book is so calming and relaxing, it is a great book for any young children to fall asleep to. And if you find that you like this book, Barbara also wrote another great book called When the Sun Rose. Feel free to check that book out also. This is a great book and if Barbara Berger somehow gets a chance to read this review, you should be proud of this book and I am sure that all of that hard work payed off. |

Barbara Helen Berger's Grandfather Twilight is one of the three greatest bedtime stories ever written (the other two being Dr. Seuss's The Sleep Book and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown). Yet even such praise seems empty before a work as wonderful as this book. Berger has created more than a bedtime story. "Grandfather Twilight" qualifies as a great piece of Myth-making. This is done through the combination of Berger's typically luminous illustrations and her hauntingly spare language. I've said this before and will say it again...Barbara Berger is the greatest living Children's author. Her books are consistently great. I cannot recommend the work of this remarkable woman enough. Get a copy today. |

The image of the grandfather is not found much in children's books, so this gentle telling of Grandfather Twilight's evening task is welcome on many levels. 'Grandfather Twilight lives among the trees' begins the book, and next we find the kindliest of white-haired and bearded gentlemen as he sits, reading until the day is done, and then begins his walk to the seaside. Filled with lovely prose and haunting images of forest, ocean and sky, that together create a mood of serenity. By the time you reach 'Good night', your little ones (and you) will feel ready for a peaceful night. Highly recommended. |

Grandfather Twilight is a beautiful book. It is a wonder that the author creates such an atmosphere in such a small book. The story and pictures have a meditative quality similar to Goodnight Moon. The book is calming, beautiful, and somewhat mysterious. I picked this up for an 8 year old girl I take care of and she never gets tired of hearing it, nor I of reading it. Sometimes she'll read it to me and it causes me to just stop and acknowledge the beauty and the wonder of the world. |

The pictures were fantastic, and the text was quite amazing. It was intriguing that the author portrayed the moon as a pearl. I was captivated by the book completely. I thought the book was quite a success. It was a children's masterpiece. It was descriptive, and my opinion was that it is wonderful. It has the potential to be one of the classics. The book was inspiring. Pure inspiration! |
