It's always a pleasure to find a book that is worth rereading a time or two, and this one definitely falls into that category. The book is a collection of true stories that explore the special bond between humans and their pets or, in some cases, their wild animal friends. Because each story is written by a different author, there is a great deal of variation in the writing styles and in the stories themselves, but almost every story is touching in some way. A lot of the book did leave me in tears, but it was still such an enjoyable read that I finished the book in less than 24 hours. My only complaint is that I felt too many of the stories focused on death or ended in death. Our pets lead such short lives, and I would have preferred a few more humorous or heroic tales.
Some of my favorite stories in the collection:
"Delayed Delivery" is the story of an elderly widow who is spending her first Christmas alone, until she becomes the recipient of a very special gift.
"Turkeys" is an amusing little story that is worth sharing. A young girl, sick with the measles and a high fever, wakes up to discover that her bed is full of baby turkeys. Is she dreaming?
"Doctola" is the only story in the collection that actually sent shivers down my spine. A young vet, working as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, is able to save the lives of two puppies. He is assured by the local "medicine man" the puppies will some day repay him, and they do, in a manner that left me both thoughtful and spooked.
"Babblers Anonymous" is the story that I could relate to more than any other. It's a short and humorous look at a sensible woman who is determined to treat her cat with the dignity he deservers, and to never ever be caught in the "baby talk" trap.
Enjoy!

Pets, pets, pets. Just think about it. Everyone loves pets, so they finally made a book about pets called Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul. In this book, there are many, many stories by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Marty Becker, D. V. M., and Carol Kline. The cost of this book is only $12.95. I got the book at Feeder's Supply or you could get it at any bookstore that carries the Chicken Soup Series. The ISBN number is 1558745718 for the paperback and 1558745726 for the hardback. The stories are very heart warming and range from a boy and his pet snake to a man raising a flying squirrel. Cartoons and poems are foung in many places throughout the book. Teaching, healing, bonding, being amazing, companionship, and saying good-bye are all found in this wonderful book Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul.

Any animal lover will appreciate this book and I would like to see those who do not possess a love for animals to read it and see how many become believers in the lives and feelings of one of our most valuable and blessed gifts from God. When I would begin to read this book I would say to myself, " I will read 2 or 3 then go to bed." Impossible. You cannot put it down. Yes, tissues were a necessity and prayers of thanksgiving were frequent. Most of all, again we are shown that God uses animals to help us in many ways and we are given the opportunity to receive blessings from coming in contact with God's creatures. Another book that clearly portrays God's purpose of putting humans and animals together is Ralph Helfer's "Modoc: The World's Greatest Elephant." A quite moving read.

Once in a lifetime a book comes along that makes you think, "The authors had me in mind when they wrote this book!" That's the way I felt after reading the very first story in this book; then I couldn't put in down.
The stories in Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul were so vivid, so powerful, so real, that I was swept off of my "emotional feet" by reading them. I immediately ordered a dozen copies so that I could give a heartfelt gift to all my friends and coworkers who were rabid pet lovers just like me.

I have read other Chicken Soup books but this is one of the best. I am not one to cry about stuff like this but this made me bawl. I just can't help it. I read at least one story every night and before I go to bed the pillow is soaked. I recently had to give up my dogs and if I can't have them this is the next best thing. I wil continue to read Chicken Soup Books and I thank Jack Canfield and the many people who send in your stories. They bring me hope and joy. Thank you.
