This book is full of mysteries. As Mary Lenox, an orphaned, stubborn, and impolite 10 year old girl, go to her uncle’s manor, she meets Martha. Martha is her "maid" who introduces Mary to a new way of thinking and life. She is captured by the thought of a mysterious garden. As she finds the door and the key, she needs some assistance helping the garden grow, and a Martha’s brother, Dickon, an animal charmer and lover, is the one she turns to. Much more mysteries included in this book are crying in the corridors, pictures of people all along the hallways and Mary’s aunt, Mrs. Craven. Where does all this fit, read the book and you will find out.

The author of the book is Frances Hodgson Burnett she written the novel called The Secret Garden. Dell Publishing Co. in the year of 1911 published the book. The theme of the book was basically loneliness. A girl had been abandoned from her parents and had to live with her uncle. Her cousin hardly ever sees his uncle. This lonely kid always felt as if he would die. This little girl named Mary Lennox tries to help him. It all changes when she discovers a magical garden. The book was very cool. It is a sad touching story how a magical garden can bring family back together. Mainly if you have an experience of being lonely and felt like no one ever cared for you then The Secret Garden is the right book to read. Honestly the book relates to a lot of teenage kids in the world today because for teenage kids that may be locked up in the room and feel very lonely to the point they feel as death will creep upon them. That someday they will find a garden with magical powers to bring them to join with other people. I would recommend this book to everyone because it was an adventure, descriptive, amazing, magical book I loved it and I hope anyone else who reads it will enjoy it to.

Did you ever want to find something secret? Well, in the book The Secret Garden by Francis Hodges Burnett, Mary Lennox, the protagonist, moved to the Misselthwaite Manor because of a disease that killed all of her caretakers in her old home. When she goes to her new room she meets Martha, her new maid. Then she walks through the gardens and she meets Ben Weatherstaff, the garden caretaker, and the robin. Mary tries to find the secret garden Martha had told her about. Mary has trouble finding it, but if you read the book you will find out if she does find it! "Who's the robin?" Mary asks Ben as she turns around. Mary loves to look at birds, and when she looks up in a tree, she sees the robin. Ben introduces the robin to Mary and the robin loves Mary. One day Mary goes to see the skittish robin; the robin has maneuvered to show Mary where the key was. They find the key but they don't find the garden. Mary was underhanded about finding the key. She is as quiet about the key as a mouse. To her the key is a piece of gold. Therefore, Mary wouldn't tell anyone. If you want to find out more about more about Mary and the Misselthwaite Manor, look for The Secret Garden at any library. I recommend this book because when you read it you will be on the edge of your seat.

I read The Secret Garden as a child and fell in love with it. Now, as a 23 year old adult, it is still as endearing to me as it was then. The characters and the setting are so realistic. Whenever I read it now, I can still feel the cold wind and fog of England, and can also see every plant and flower in the garden. I recommend that children and adults alike read this book. You will treasure it.
