It's powerful 'how-to' information based on very complex science, approaching the subject of food in a way that has not been done before. ... After reading this, you will have gone a long way to getting your own prescription for food. |

Sears' advice flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but recent studies support his radical theories, and his credentials are solid... It simply takes us back to the good old days, before carbo-mania swept the land. |

Dr. Sears, a former MIT researcher, followed some Nobel prize-winning research and developed a dietary roadmap that causes permanent weight loss, is anti-aging and healthful ... These books are well worth reading, and no surprise they have sold over three million copies and just stay on the bestseller lists. |

For anyone who wants to lose weight, gain energy, and say goodbye to chronic sickness, take it from me, the Zone works. Two years ago I was sick of being overweight and sick of suffering with chronic sinusitis. I read the Zone, followed the guidelines for Zone-friendly meals, and within two days I saw a significant difference in my energy levels. Within two weeks my clothes were fitting again. Now, two years later, I have lost 35 pounds without having gained back one ounce. And I didn't kill myself with exercise. My eating habits are completely changed and I pay attention to every meal without being obsessive about it. And, I haven't suffered with a sinus infection or any illness requiring medication since. As for the complexity of The Zone, I really wanted to lose the weight and get my energy back, so I made myself understand it. Even the technical stuff. But there's no reason why one couldn't skip the really complex stuff and still understand and apply Dr. Sears' method. It works and I tell everyone I know - if you are serious about getting healthy, read The Zone. |

I found the book excellent because it talks about reality.. that taking carbohydrates would just make you fat, and that the reason why people don't have any energy is because they aren't eating fats to give them that energy. My fiancée and I are trying it out (I'm trying to gain, and she's trying to lose weight), and have found that our energy has never been better.
Unlike what another person has said, I never found this book confusing at all, whereas my fiancée did. The reasoning behind the confusion, in my opinion, is because all of these magazines talking about some new "diet" using pastas and rice, and Boost with their "energy drink". For too long, we have been inundated with false information most likely from some company who's told the government that this is the right way to eat and lose weight. Thank goodness for this book. People can finally eat properly, and all based on scientific research. As well, I've also seen the ideas in real magazines such as Muscle Media and Oxygen.
Now for the "but". I did not agree with the use of aspirin to lower cholesterol. When I got to that part, I read a few pages, and almost tore it out of the book. Why would I take such a drug to lower my cholesterol? What about the chances of getting addicted? With all the illegal drug addicts dying, there is never any mention of aspirin and tylenol addicts.
Finally, this book failed to mention that the best way to lose fat and increase metabolism, is to lift weights. Muscle is the best fat burner that nature has given us, and yet very few mention that. |

This book has no scientific merits. Nutrition science (metabolic biochemistry) has been well established through vigorous experiments and peer reviews over the last few decades. And this book is a total contradictory to the established science. The author forgets that sugar (glucose)is not poison but lack of sugar is poisonous. The brain and nervous system depend exclusively on sugar energy. Furthermore, a few personal testimonies has no place in science. Science requires hard data to support it. I believe the author's primary purpose is to make money. It is not true science.

I read two of the zone books. This book had me riveted. I went through it line by line with a highlighter in hand. I still keep going back to it fearing that I would forget what I learned. I started on this "health program" in April of 1998 at which time my triglycerides and cholesterol tested to be at 572 and 292, respectively. I do not want to tell you what it was before that. I would be accused of exaggeration. I declined to take my doctor's prescription and got him to agree to allow me to try it the natural way. Two months later I was tested again and my triglycerides and cholesterol were down to 135 and 202 respectively. I lost at least 15 percent of my weight in six weeks. I started working out at the gym again (for health reasons). I noticed that my endurance improved significantly each time I went. I started at 4.5 mph over 1.5 miles jogging on the treadmill to 6 mph over 3.5 miles running, in about 6 weeks. I was both elated and pleasantly shock. I want to thank Dr. Sears for sharing the results of his research and studies. I am basically a biology illiterate, but Dr. Sears does a superb job of presenting the results of his research on a level I can understand, but without discarding the important technical points. This book gives me a good understanding of what the program does for me and it certainly keeps me motivated. I have not given up the pleasure of good food either. In fact, I have set aside one night a week for bingeing out which helps dispel the fear of being trap in this indefinitely. Like the book says, this will not hurt. The results have been so significant on me I influenced at least six other persons to go on it - and they are all exuberant about it. I wish could tell more but for now, let me just say that I am enjoying good health, physically and mentally. Thank you, Dr. Sears. |

A few months ago, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes, at 31. This was a huge wakeup call for us. I have been overweight and dieting since early childhood, and my husband has been overweight for most of his adulthood. We just finished our 16th week on the zone. In that time, I have lost 43 pounds and my husband has lost 58! Incidentally, after 2 weeks on the zone my husband's blood sugar was back within normal limits and the doctor changed his diagnosis from 'diabetes' to 'diabetes- prone'. My husband asked the doctor if the zone was safe for us, and the doctor said it seemed to be working for us and he had no hesitation. It amazes me that people will balk at the plan and point out that it's not healthy to eat protein at every meal, but aren't lots of people currently eating the triple cheeseburgers anyway? I never eat more than a chicken breast's worth of protein at a meal. I now am healthier because I don't eat egg yolks, and I eat lower fat meats and cheeses. Doing something is better than doing nothing, and we don't have to be perfect. I agree that the book isn't the easiest to read, but it's worth the effort! We probably eat more of the not so good carbs than good carbs, but of course we follow the portions, and we figure this is better than before when we ate supersized portions of bad carbs. We'll take small steps.
We find the plan very convenient. We have no trouble eating out. We make the best choices we can and forget about it. If I'm going to a friend's house I pack my own lunch (a small price to pay), and we have found ways to eat everything we like...pizza, mashed potatoes, sandwiches, ice cream, etc. It's amazing, too, that by reading labels I have found that sometimes just switching brands of a product will make it fit into the plan more easily, like bread, ice cream, and pizza sauce. I've heard people say that the plan is a quack because once you go off it you will gain the weight back. I wholeheartedly agree that this would happen...I became overweight because I overate. We have decided to make this way of eating a lifetime change. I have never been successful on other plans, and I've tried them all! I've never lost more than 20 pounds before and have never been able to stick to any diet. I have never felt hungry on this plan, and I don't get cravings that often. When I do, I have that food as part of my next meal or snack...in proportion. Overall, the zone has changed our lives for the better, and I can't recommend it highly enough! For us, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change...for the better. |

The Zone is an amazing diet plan. Imagine this: you are no longer hungry, you need less sleep, you have absolutely no cravings for pasta, bread, potatoes, etc., you have almost endless energy, and find working out effortless. Well, it's all possible if you enter the Zone. Some people may tell you that it is too hard to keep up with, or doesn't work. My sister is one of them. The Zone has changed my life. I was recovering from a fractured ankle, and got really out of shape. Now, I follow the Zone diet, which is simple, and find that I can work out as much as I need to without any discomfort. For example, breakfast in the Zone might be: 2 slices of Canadian bacon, 2 eggwhites (or 1 egg), a slice of cheese, an apple, 1 cup cantaulope, and 5 almonds. Tons of food, tons of micronutrients (protein, carbs, fats), hardly any calories. The Zone is not about calories. In fact, you can run on very few calories, and never be hungry. For it is about the micronutrient balances in your diet that help you live, not the amount of calories you take in. As long as you get what your body needs, you're okay. This diet could not be easier to follow, or have better results. However, if you do not have will power, or are not willing to forever change your life, I recommend you don't waste your time reading this book. Otherwise, your life literally depends on the Zone. I mean it. |
