Back for another highly entertaining round of Biology 101, the team behind YOU: The Owner's Manual applies its signature wit and wisdom to food metabolism and nutrition. According to Roizen and Oz, waist measurement, not weight, is the most important factor in mortality related to obesity, and understanding the relationship between chemicals and hormones influencing hunger and those signaling satiety is the key to ending yo-yo dieting. Most diets fail, Roizen and Oz conclude, because body chemistry overrules the best plans and intentions. To restore the body's natural ability to balance hunger and satiety and offset the effects of stress on food choices, they list foods and supplements that fight fat, decrease appetite and combat inflammation that causes disease. Roizen and Oz pack in a lot of material - quizzes, "factoids" and "myth busters" along with diet and exercise plans, recipes and a two-week "rebooting" program - in bite-sized portions, giving readers a chance to absorb and apply what they learn. |

This book makes more sense than anything I have ever heard or read. It is written by two Doctors but in layman's terms, very clear and concise. I am very happy with my purchase and would advise anyone wishing to lose weight, or become more healthy without the usual stress of dieting to read and enjoy. It is wonderful reading, funny and entertaining while learning about your body, its needs and functions.

I found this book extremely informative. After yo yo dieting for the last 43 years this book finally provided some answers as to why my weight has been so hard to keep in check. The exercise program is easy to follow and the eating program even simpler. The authors use many analogies to make understanding the medical complexities easy for the lay person.

Dr. Oz explains the body in a way anyone can understand. His suggestions for getting to an appropriate weight for excellent health are clear, helpful, and easily accomplished. I took this to my personal doctor and asked him if this was a good plan for me and he was very affirming - go for this! By the way, it's working. The daily walk is the most important part from my experience because it keeps you on task, gives you super energy and makes my 58 year old body feel younger!

I found this book very easy to read and easy to quote to anyone who will listen. My problem is me. Armed with the knowledge in this book I have no doubt I am on the way to a healthier younger body. Unfortunately I stuck in the wrong direction waiting for a suitable moment to make a U turn. I will read the book again especially the part about exercising and just how little food is needed to keep my fat cells alive. I am convinced this is a sensible healthy approach to maintaining a healthy body and intend to get started very soon.

I have found this book to be very helpful. The book explains in easy to understand ways how our bodies work against some of our weight loss efforts through the foods that we eat and emotional issues we have to deal with. For me it is helpful understanding all of the chemical actions that take place when I eat certain foods and this has caused me to make better eating decisions. The book helped me to understand it is not all my fault that I am over weight; many of the foods I have choosen to eat cause me to want to eat more. The plan is easy to follow and I never get hungry. I also don't have to eat veggies all day if I don't want to. The receipies in the book are some of the best I've seen before. I don't feel like I'm on a diet when I make dinner. The exercise plan is simple and easy to follow. I really like this book and plan to make it's suggestions a permant part of my life. I have also lost weight as part of following the plan and it was not that difficult once getting in the habit of following the plan.

I really don't know why I was compelled to buy yet another diet book. It may have been meeting Dr. Oz on Oprah and seeing that he could answer any question thrown at him by the audience without hesitation and with inteligence and confidence. I believed him to actually know what he was talking about. I started to read my book the minute it arrived and had to stop after 20 minutes. I stopped to find a highlighter and my lime green index tabs. It was my book and it was a keeper so I could "customize" it to suit my self. I had to buy more index tabs before I finished the book and now I fear my book is no longer that perfect coffee table prop. There were so many things in this book that hit home, sunk in and made sense to me that I needed to be able to find them again in an instant. After only weeks I no longer look like a pregnant 60 year old, I have lost weight, gained confidence and energy. I Am Not On a Diet. I am merely making better choices for myself. I did not pig out during the holidays and I was not tempted to. Read this book with an open mind but listen to what it says. It truly has changed my life.

I purchased this book after seeing Dr. Roz on TV. I love learning new things, and this book teaches you exactly how the body works with the food you put in it, and how your food choices make it healthy or sick. Once you really understand what that sugar-laden pastry or fast food is doing once it goes into your stomach, you will appreciate the complex chemicals and enzymes that take that food and try to make something good out of it. You also learn that bad food causes inflammation in your blood vessels, which slows down blood flow, which causes other parts of your body to get sick. You don't have to think diet after reading this book, you will just automatically start going for the right food, because you want the right chemicals, hormones, etc. in your body to be activated. I don't think there's a better diet book out there. Two thumbs and a pinkie up!

This book was able to finally explain to me the answers to questions I have had for the past 30 years and could never get answers for in the past. As Dr. Oz & Dr. Roizen say in the first part of the book, science has finally come to understand how certain foods work and affect our bodies. As I read this book I found the scientific answers to so many questions. As a diabetic who is very obese and unable to lose weight without starving, this has been most helpful to me. Since reading the book, applying the principals of much of the information, my weight has finally began to come off, slowly as it should be. After 3 years of trying many other food plans, this one is working great for me. I recommend the book very highly.
