When I read Clifford, The Big Red Dog I thought it was an interesting and fun book for children. It was made in 1988 and written by Norman Bridwell. The book is about a young girl named Emily Elizabeth, and her dog Clifford. When Emily got Clifford he was small and tiny, but as they grew up together he got bigger and harder to take care of... as in some ways that he was the biggest dog in the City. When Clifford grows up Emily describes the activities she enjoys doing with her very big red dog like hide and go seek, giving him a bath, taking him to shows... but also gets in the way of everything such as chewing shoes, scaring the zoo animals away and digging up flowers. They also learn as they go along as they go along in life how they take care of each other. I think the book would be a good choice for children to read because it tells and shows how Clifford gets in all this trouble because he is so big and can never hide from any of it, But Emily still cares for him and loves him, and would trade nothing in the world for her Big Red Dog. I think this book will remain popular for a long time still... and all the other Clifford books too that children love and read.

Our son loves this book! The illustrations are simple and clear. The text is cute and easy for small children to follow. I highly recommend this book for small children. |

He's a very big red dog, and Emily Elizabeth loves him-though she knows he's not perfect. After all, when gigantic Clifford chases a car, he actually catches it-in his mouth! He needs a doghouse as large as the family home, he digs up big trees for fun and he takes baths in a large swimming pool. He's an enormous dog with an enormous heart. Millions of fans of the original Clifford books are grown-ups now, raising a new generation of admirers. Even if you don't have a family pet, no one can resist the world's biggest, reddest dog. |

This first Clifford the Big Red Dog book is in board book format so that younger children can flip through the pages and enjoy Clifford without accidentally destroying the book. This book introduces Emily Elizabeth and her pet dog, Clifford. However, Clifford isn't an ordinary dog. He's big. He's red and he has some peculiar habits. Children of a variety of ages love Clifford and this book is a great way to introduce young children to Emily and Clifford. It's fairly short, entertaining, and contains a subtle message on acceptance as well. |

Clifford is one of those literary creatures who adults find hard to quite "get." I am among those adults, but I have to admit, my children love all things Clifford and when his show is playing on the local PBS channel, its "must-see-TV" time for the kids. This is the book that launched Clifford's career. Originally released in the late eighties, Clifford has grown into a children's icon. Norman Bridwell apparently hit upon an idea that resonates with children. Of course, most kids love dogs, red is a color that stand out, and I guess combine the two in a giant dog and you've got instant appeal to the toddler set. I don't mean for that to sound cynical. Clifford's stories frequently contain good moral lessons for the children and most often revolve around the concept of "love" for one's pet and vice versa. Oddly, in this, the first book in the series, there is no explanation for why Clifford is a giant dog (I've never sorted out how tall he actually is; sometimes he appears to be 10-12 feet tall and sometimes twice that height). Of course, my four-year-old could care less about explanations, she just loves him. |

This book is significant to me because I love animals, especially dogs! This book is good for children because it will show them it’s ok to be different. I have 3 dogs so I think I know how hard it is to raise pets, it would probably be just as hard to raise Clifford because he is so big. In this book Emily talks about how much she loves Clifford and she doesn't care how he looks and would never trade him for another dog. Overall, this was a pretty good book. |

Clifford strikes gold again in the compelling novel about a girl and her dog. I am currently a sophomore at Old Dominion University with 'Clifford the Big Red Dog,' being my last children's book read. I not only found it interesting and entertaining, but also a full color portrait of children's literature as a whole. Whether you will share Clifford with a child or read for your own personal satisfaction, this is the book of choice. I give Clifford the Big Red Dog five stars and strongly recommend it for anyone. |

Reading to my son, Joshua, has been a tradition in the evenings since he was too young to understand what we were doing. Now, however, at the ripe old age of three he loves to read with Daddy and picks his own books out each night, running through the hallway with selections in hand. Clifford always seems to be in the stack and Clifford the Big Red Dog comes back more often than all of the other Clifford books he loves. He enjoys finding Clifford (and this is not very difficult) and laughing when I can't. From a reading enjoyment standpoint, this one is fantastic for kids. And if you are in a rush to get them into bed, Clifford is always a quick read. |
