Jeffrey Gitomer is the King of Blunt. Selling is hard work. Networking takes time. Being great requires effort.

If you are willing to take it on the chin, his methods are tried and true and repackaged for salesperson on the go. You can buy CD sets for 100's of dollars that drone on about these concepts, or you can spend less than $20 and read a chapter as you sit in the parking lot eating your drive-thru lunch trying not to get ketchup on your shirt before your next sales call.

He's smart, funny, to the point, and most importantly, spot-on in his recommendations. If you haven't discovered Gitomer, now's the time. If you have, you wouldn't be reading this review - you'd already be buying the book!

I've just finished reading the Little Black Book of Connections - or rather I finished the "first read" of the book. As all of Jeffrey's books, this is a "perpetual read" that keeps on giving. He is the master of stating the obvious; when you read his recommendations it seems obvious - but if it is so obvious, why don't we do it?

And I am not a sales person looking for ideas on how to boost my sales - I am a process improvement consultant. My business partner is a retail consultant and trainer and recommended that I read Jeffrey's Sales Bible. I read it for a lack of something better to read and now own every one of Jeffry's books, subscribe (and anticipate) his weekly e-zine and wait patiently for every new book he publishes. And you will find many "treasures" hidden in every one of Jeffrey's book in the form of Redbits and Gitbits.

And talk about results - every time I read (and re-read) his books, I learn something new, apply it and always get results.

And this guy can write - better than any business writer I know. You will find no "fluff" in his books - all useful content. Jeffrey doesn't waste words - he just delivers - value, value, value. He can get his point across better than any writer.

One last note - Not only are Jeffrey's books the absolute best sales and service reading in the world, the book bindings and composition are works of art. Once you read one of his books, you will most certainly buy the rest of them - just like the rest of us Jeffrey Gitomer fans ...

    Jeffrey Rocks!

I just happened upon this book, in the Cincinnati airport 2 weeks ago. I have already purchased 5 copies to give away to some friends. I presented it to a mastermind group about networking that I am a part of, and we have adopted this book as our textbook (bible.)

This book encourages you to network for a purpose without overwhelming anyone.

Gitomer starts out to remind his readers, it is not all about who you know, but WHO KNOW YOU.

Networking is social and can be fun. But that is not enough if you are doing it to grow your business.

This book asks you to explore the WHYs of networking:
    WHY are you networking?
WHY are you networking with who and where you are currently?

Probably the most helpful parts were on networking up. How do you get to the decision makers that you really need to know. Or as Gitomer says, the people that need to know you.

The Gitman gets it like nobody else. No bull, no PC, no punches, just great stuff. I bought the book this afternoon and could not put it down until I was done with it.

I can't say that about a lot of books but I can ALWAYS say that about Jeffrey's. If you have any interest in being more successful this book is for you. You will get absolutely excellent advice on how to network more effectively and with exactly the right people.

Furthermore you will learn that networking isn't about you...it's about what you can do for others. The cool thing is it ALL comes back to you when your focus is first on others.

I highly recommend Jeffrey's latest book. I am putting Jeffrey on MY top 10 list of people I want to meet one day.
  • John Cassetta (MSL quote), USA   <2007-10-19 00:00>

Black is good but Red is better. The fundamentals of networking have already been discussed in both of Gitomer's Red books. Black beefs up the subject matter a little bit but not enough to warrant an entire book. I like it, I'm glad I read it, I'm still a huge Gitomer fan but this did not live up to my expectations.

Jeffrey Gitomer is destined to go down in history as the 21st Century's answer to Dale Carnegie and Napoleon Hill. Gitomer's genius lies in his unique ability to give insights into complicated networking and sales strategies, but he does it with such elegant simplicity. Everything Gitomer writes is so simple that it inspires me and other readers to take action--that's the Gitomer difference. While Gitomer is always simple and easy to understand, he is never simplistic and never relies on the same old tripe you've read and heard over the years. Here is a typical page from The Little Black Book of Connections:

"The worst way to get a referral is to ask for one right after you make a sale, but before you have performed. A good way to get a referral is to ask for one after you have delivered value to a customer. A better way to get a referral is to earn one. The BEST way to get a referral is to GIVE one."

Gitomer is a true talent in boiling down issues to their core. By putting a spotlight on what works and what doesn't in such a simple way, Gitomer motivates his readers to take the necessary actions to make the connections they need to succeed in sales and life.
