This book is essentially indispensible for so many of us, and so it's never really a question of how good the latest edition might be. That said, I still think AP is behind on the entire field of technology and the Internet. I always find myself referring to the Wired Style book for usage questions for documents referring to Web sites and strategy. There are also some areas in which AP is not backing down: they insist on sticking with "e-mail," for example, when most of us have gone to "email." They also insist that we keep capitalizing "Web" when it's so common now, that the distinction is arguably not needed.

Overall, the bulk of the book is fine - exactly what you expect from AP. But the very thin Internet section is in need of a major reexamination so that we can all stop flipping between AP and the Wired book. Considering how much of our information today is online, you would think AP would place a higher priority on staying complete with their online usage rules.

This is the best reference guide for any student or professional. As a student at the University of Nevada, Reno Journalism School we were trained to sleep with this book. I found myself referring to this book even in English classes that required MLA style and Psychology classes that required APA style because this book not only teaches a person AP style, but also teaches proper use of a word and abbreviations.

Outside of school I have found that many professionals DO NOT know how to properly write and communicate with the media. This book should be sitting on every professional's bookshelf as a reference tool. No longer will there be a need to ask a co-worker about a particular syntax problem in your sentence, it is all right here!

This is the best reference for consistency in writing for public reading. All those nagging questions about what is correct will be answered in this book for journalists. Did you know that you only capitalize a person's academic title when it precedes their name?

The Assoicated Press has done an excellent job of compiling and indexing words which are frequently questioned in news writing. The general index contains the correct format for most unusual words. It also has helpful mini-sections on the accepted style for typical elements in news writing, such as a small section on how to format times in articles and when they should be used. The book has a separate section for business and sports writing and includes an informative manual on libel. Simply a must for any professional or academic journalist.

This book is a must-have for college students in commumnications and journalism courses. It opens your eyes to the world of editing. The book allows you to find the proper way to cite a company name, or use a generic term. It's an invaluable resource. And in response to a prior review - Yes it does have an entire section in the center devoted to the Intranet. The former edition (yellowish cover) had no entry, but the new (red) version is packed with useful online information.

I'm a journalism minor and this book is a must-have. However, after looking though the book and using it several times, it would be great for anyone who does any kind of writing. It tells you how to spell works, how they should be capitalized, and other things like that.

For journalists: it helps put things into the format that your newspaper editor or broadcast producer wants. It also keeps your stories in line with the AP's guidelines. It is a great tool to have on your desk, just in case you aren't sure. The entries are in alphabetical order, so what you're looking for will be easy to find.

This book contains the rules for writing in print that most newspapers and magazines go by. It is all in alphabetical order and written in an easy to follow and understand way. Extremely handy for writers. Just keep a copy near your computer, when you have a question about the proper rule on something, open up the book. You'll find the answer. Extremely well written. Excellent for students and professionals alike.

Anyone who writes for a living or whose job involves any writing at all should buy this book. The most common gramatical questions are answered; confused words and phrases are corrected. Even the most seasoned writers will often find themselves consulting this book.
