This is... a well-organized, easy-to-use handbook that will indeed help sufferers of myofascial pain learn to treat themselves with effective self-massage techniques. The detail and clarity of the book's format will also make it invaluable to pain physicians who want to be able to teach their patients useful, simple strategies to manage soft tissue pain problems.

This is a useful book for anyone in chronic pain. There are few resources like this one, which empowers the reader to understand the problem and offers the tools to manage it. The approach to managing pain described in this book will help many take control of a significant part of their health and will become a valuable lifelong reference. |

As a medical doctor who has been challenged by patients experiencing chronic pain, including those suffering from long-standing cases of fibromyalgia, I appreciate a safe solution for their problem. I believe this book, revealing that trigger point therapy may safely relieve chronic pain, should be in the hands of every doctor. |

Literally millions of people will be helped - and billions of dollars saved in unnecessary treatments and medications - as people and professionals finally begin to understand the role of muscles, referred pain, and trigger points in eliminating pain. Davies has provided an important bridge between the many helping professions that deal with people in pain and their patients. |

Properly used, the information in Davies’s book should enable many people with myofascial trigger point disorders to participate effectively in treating their conditions. The book should be especially useful to those who do not have ready access to a practitioner familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of these common muscular problems. |

As a chiropractor for twelve years and an instructor of trigger point therapy at the Utah College of Massage Therapy for ten years, I found Davies’ book very accurate and complete. His graphics and illustrations make it easy to show patients and clients ways to improve quality of life. I believe the book will be a valuable asset to all health care practitioners who use trigger point therapy. |

I was pretty skeptical when I bought this product. So many reviewers raved about it as if it were a miracle that I was expecting to be let-down. I've had serious neck and jaw pain since I was about 9 years old. I decided that I would try out this book's treatments on the sternomastoid (sp?) muscles, masseters, and trapezoids for one week to see if I noticed any improvement...
And I did. In one week, my neck and jaw pain were significantly improved. I've been lax about doing the treatments since that week ended, and I've been shocked to discover that the pain hasn't returned yet. I haven't had a tension headache since doing this treatment. That's pretty near miraculous for me.
That being said, this book isn't a cure-all. My pain is significantly improved, but it's not gone. Some of the other reviewers (and the authors of the book!) had me hoping that my pain would completely disappear after only a couple of treatments. So, take what reviewers and the authors say with a grain of salt...
But I definitely recommend giving this book a shot, especially if you have pain that doesn't respond to other treatments or has been around for years. |

With very little reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend this text which has helped both my husband and myself with muscle-related pains which we had thought were related to much more serious diagnoses! [my reservations are limited to the author thoughts about activator chiropractic]
From my perspective, this book will teach you how to truly relieve your pain. One can achieve that desired state of permanent pain resolution if you are initially diligent in working on the trigger points he lists, and also identifying lifestyle factors which may cause the trigger points to reappear. For me, this has meant to direct attention to how I sit, stand, sleep and to some degree my diet as well. By paying attention to my own body mechanics, I can prevent the trigger points from reoccuring. If I insist however on jutting my neck out and down, the trigger point workups need to be continued.
Clair Davies is very precise in describing how to identify and resolve trigger points, and provides excellent explanations for potential misdiagnoses related to the points of pain experienced. Do not miss this opportunity to heal yourself of chronic pain! |

This a good trigger point therapy workbook, complete with "rubberball" tools, but the problem is, once again, this therapy is being touted as the "be-all-end-all" approach to pain management and health. Trigger point is a modality, a bodywork modality, and needs to be recognized as such. Just as massage, reflexology, and shiatsu are modalities, there needs to be a line drawn so people don't confuse this with a health book. Gangi's book does much better in defining our path to balanced health, and also redefines therapies such as this one so people aren't confused or misled. High on the list because it's used in massage schools, but not the best for people wanting to find the cause of their pain, and then dealing with it. |
