This is a great self-help book. Whenever I have a pain, I try this trigger point method. I have had absolutely fantastic results!! I had an arm injury from working in the yard that resisted getting well for almost a year. The book described my symptoms perfectly and I tried the tennis ball in the various locations and this is the only treatment that has actually made a lasting improvement. I can now make pain free movements with my arm that I could not make without pain for almost a year. Recently, I had arthritic type pains in my hands and I had again been doing yard work so I decided to try the trigger point option again. To my surprise, after about 3 days, I am 80% better. I also use this approach with headaches with very good results.
I highly recommend this book and I tell anyone who will listen about the results I have obtained. However, it is important to remember that this is not an instant help on chronic conditions and it does takes repeated action to improve. But, I know it has worked for me when nothing else gave lasting improvement. It is at least worth a try! You have nothing to lose but the pain. Also, the book is very easy to use with many pictures showing the location of the pain and the location of the sundry trigger points. It is also divided by body location which makes it real easy to find the area where a particular problem is located. In my opinion, this book is definitely worth reading and it is absolutely one of the best investments I have ever made.

From Publisher
Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain - conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 145,000 copies since the release of the first edition in 2001. The second edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.

From the Back Cover
Drug-free, self-care solutions to chronic pain
Doctors who specialize in pain treatment suggest that trigger points, small contraction knots in the muscles of the body, are the primary cause for about 75 percent of chronic pain cases. They further report finding trigger points in virtually every patient they treat.
Because trigger points nearly always refer pain to parts of the body other than where they’re located, diagnosing and treating them is difficult - if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
This workbook teaches you exactly what to look for when assessing trigger points. Its clear illustrations show you where on the body trigger points form and the corresponding areas to which they refer pain. Then, in step-by-step detail, it explains how you can treat these sources of chronic pain with unusually effective massage techniques you can do by yourself at any time.
This fully revised and expanded edition of the first and best self-care guide to trigger point therapy includes progressive muscle relaxation techniques that reinforce and support your trigger point therapy. It also offers specific information for bodywork professionals who want to include trigger point therapy in their practices.
If you’ve struggled with chronic pain without finding relief, you owe it to yourself to learn and practice the techniques in this workbook - easy, reliable skills that offer real, lasting relief without drugs, doctor visits, and costly medical bills. |
