Dennis (MSL quote), USA
<2007-12-19 00:00>
I so like it when a writer delivers on the promises their publisher makes on their book's jacket: "Penn shows readers how to identify the microtrends that can transform a business, enterprise, tip an election, spark a movement, or change your life." and Mark Penn has done that and more. The more is in the witty writing style and the Penn inferences from the data that gives life and meaning to the facts and figures he uses to portray how we think and act.
While I am not sure what I will do with the knowledge that, "America is moving to the left. Left-handed, that is." Or, the fact that, "...the number of female clergy in America has more than tripled", but at least I now understand the issues of `Stained Glass Ceiling Breakers'. And while most people assumed that vegans would have children, did we see the growing trend of other meatless tables? If the book only improves my conversations at cocktail parties, it was worth the time to read it; if it improves my business decisions ... well, "Thank you Mark Penn."
Although by definition this book will have a limited shelf-life and thus cannot become a classic, it was enjoyable and informative and is recommended for strategic thinkers, even those who do their best strategic work holding court at cocktail parties.
