This book is a must have for any woman considering breast feeding her baby or currently breastfeeding her baby. Well written and informative, it provides sound advice and encouragement.

It is a must have for stay at home or working mothers! Makes the perfect shower gift.

I bought and read this book before my son was born. I felt very informed and knowledgable about breastfeeding and very confident from the get go and I swear it was because of this book. Nursing has been very good for us and I love it more than I ever thought I would. I recently bought it for my friend expecting her third but who was planning to nurse for the first time. After reading it, she became a breastfeeding educator with her friends who had problems. She's now nursing a beautiful baby girl and couldn't be happier. She agrees that this book gave her the confidence to do it.

I really like this book. Initially I thought it would only have information on breastfeeding but covers much more about parenting than just breastfeeding. It contains lots of real case stories which make it quite interesting to read and help drive the message home. I have read it several times and will definitely read again and again. A great reference book for any mum and would make a great gift for an expecting or new mum.

After giving up on breastdfeeding with my first child, I was determined to learn more with the next. A lacation consultant at the hospital suggested this book, and it was worth reading! While this book would also be great for a first-time mother, I learned more than I expected!

I purchased this book as a gift for a woman I work with who is pregnant and wanting to breastfeed her baby.

Almost 37 years ago (when I gave birth to my son), I was the only breastfeeding mom in the hospital and there were 14 newborns. I had no idea what I was doing but I thought I would figure it out (my mother and grandmother didn't have a book to tell them how to do it so I didn't know I would need one). Well, oneof the night nurses told me about La Leche League and their wonderful book written by nursing mom's for other nursing mom's. This book helped me so much and it helped my husband too. He realized I needed his support since most of my family was telling me to bottle feed. Long story made short...I nursed my son for 9 full months at which time he decided he was finished with this stuff and went straight to a cup. He was wonderful, happy, and most of all healthy. And the best part is I left the hospital in the clothes I was wearing before I became pregnant - it helped me too to get back in those size 8's. I highly recommend this book to all expecting mothers whether or not you plan to breastfeed. Joanne Middleton.

This book will answer just about any question you may have regarding nursing, and has other useful information as well. I had a very hard time nursing, and found the La Leche League, this book, and a lot of hard work got me through the first couple of months. The "What to Expect the First Year", was a good book to read whether or not you nurse. This book is definately written for the breastfeeding mother, though I have referred to it for other things (fever, introducing solids, co-sleeping).

This is a definite must for anyone looking for an educational breastfeeding reference. With positive support, I feel that any woman who is able to produce milk can be successful with breastfeeding-there are a lot of myths and urban legends out there! However, we are each unique and not everyone dabbles in art.

I was expecting my first born and was buying various books to educate myself on pregnancy and the birthing process, when I received this from my Mom, who was formerly in La Leche League as she and my Dad raised us. I would highly recommend this to any woman thinking about breastfeeding because it provides the information needed to get started as well as information to fall back on when the baby's not latching on correctly, is refusing to eat/latch, what constitutes "normal" (every baby has their own "normal") from length of time to breastfeed to soiled diapers.

As the title states, breastfeeding is an art and, as an artist-or one who enjoys painting-art is not an inborn talent for most artists. It takes practice. Just like writing an essay, your first draft is a "rough draft" for a reason. In the beginning, my son had his positive moments of latching on, but, in reality, he needed to learn how to latch on correctly just as I needed to learn how best to hold him and prep him to latch. This is just a part of what is explained-the beginning can be frustrating but perseverance pays off! Now, he knows the motions and enjoys trying to guide himself.

I enjoy the many aspects that the book covers, from nursing positions to getting started on solids, and problems that may (and do) arise in between. In the beginning, have patience, lanolin, a heating pad and "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" nearby, the tough beginning will pass and as the book spells out and I'll reiterate-you'll share a bond with your baby as s/he grows unlike any other.

Something I found of particular interest is that it describes how a woman can stimulate the production of milk if she is planning to adopt a baby. Also, a large part of the positive support for the nursing mom comes from the father, who has his own chapter in the book, "The Manly Art of Fathering," with suggestions on how a man can support his wife in her endeavor and add strength to their new relationship in his own unique way.

Keep an open mind, as you read the book and educate yourself in general about nursing and whether or not to return to work, you will know what is right for your own situation.

Now, remember, this book is TITLED BREASTFEEDING! So it's NOT about formula feeding. It's for women who have CHOSEN to breastfeed. And it is a wonderful resource for those of you who have. I have referred to it many times over the past seven years of pregnancy and breastfeeding 3 children. I nursed them all for two years and this book makes you feel great for doing what's best for your baby. It is an easy read and explains the how to and the why for. It explains about why to have a natural birth and how to get off to the best start, continue the nursing relationship, common problems, etc. In short, if you are a woman who believes in the natural way of things then this book is not to be missed.
