The Magic Tree House Boxed Set is great for children of all ages! Your child will not be disappointed reading these books. The fun begins when Jack and Annie find a Magic Tree House in the woods. There are so many fun adventures in this book. If your child loves magic, then this set would make an excellent gift. They'll love these books!

We started reading this series to our son when he was 6. As we progressed through the books he started reading them to us. Although based on a "formula" the books transport the children to many locations and times, offering them an opportunity to learn some historical facts within an adventure story. The author has obviously done extensive research on the topics, weaving fact and fiction throughout. Significantly better than the Secrets of Droon series. Our son looked forward to reading every night and continuing the stories, begging for the next and the next and the next book. Worth every penny.

These books had been recommended to me by several people (including teachers) as a great introduction to reading. I sat down one night with my boys (5 and 7) to read the first book. Halfway through the 2nd chapter, I looked up and both boys were hanging off the edge of the bed caught up in the excitement of the story. We are now just starting book #32 after having read every book in the series up to this point and both boys are still loving it. More than that, it is a great series that I enjoy sharing with them. Not only do they enjoy the series, they also love knowing that some of the places and events Jack and Annie visit really happened! I have to read the facts at the end of each book - on their request - so they can learn more. What an awesome way for them to learn! As you might imagine, I highly recommend this series. I'm sure it won't click with every child, but if it does, you will be on a grand adventure with Jack and Annie.

This was our first journey into chapter books for our 4 year old son. I never imagined he'd stay focused for so long. The plots are everything a 4 year old boy could dream of - Knights, Dinosaurs...etc. I even enjoy the books - I can't believe I never read them as a child. We are both very excited to move on to the next set!

I tried out the first book, Dinosaurs before Dark, on a car trip to Prehistoric World. My daughter is almost 3.5 and had never been read any book longer than a 35 page Magic School Bus type book nor any book without pictures on every other page. However, the pacing of the story is super for this age and the experiment was a huge success. Just when interest might begin to flag, a new twist would emerge with: "Suddenly...." or "Look Jack!" Annie cried. Jack turned and froze in horror." (These aren't real quotations, just the kind of thing the book uses to keep kids riveted). The pictures are about every five pages, so the kid gets help imagining some of the novel concepts. For us, the car trip flew by. My daughter was mesmerized by the books and we read each of them in one sitting that took just over an hour (we're at number 9, and read 3 in one 7-hour car trip and two on the way back). I stop periodically to explain words, but she is totally in to what is going to happen next and remembers later and uses the information to fuel her imaginative play. She loves pretending to be a pirate, a pteranodon, and most recently a Cro-Magnon, for which she builds "caves" with chairs, covers herself with "animal skins" (tea cloths) etc. The books are repetitive in some ways but my daughter doesn't mind and, like other reviewers have said, chips in delightedly at recurring phrases like "absolutely still". The books are also repetitive in vocabulary: the kids only look and stare, they don't examine, peruse, scan, scrutinize, peer, eye, glance etc. I find this annoying but it may be intentional: a lot of topic-specific vocabulary is being introduced so maybe it is easier for the kids this way. I recommend this series whole-heartedly for pre-reading kids who like the first Magic School Bus series.

These books have been a great solution for having my [kid] read every evening for his school reading log. He enjoys the stories very much and the chapters’ lengths are minimal. He easily gets a good 10 minutes read each evening with only an occasional difficult word. He enjoys them so much that now I don't even have to remind him that he needs to read a chapter... I look in to his room at night and he already has the book out! I love that there are so many books in this series - I plan on buying them all for him. What a great habit of reading he has gotten in to through the Magic tree House series!
