MSL Pointer Review: An entertaining read talking about farts, burps or things of that sort, and it is an excellent title for young children struggling with body identity and acceptance.

Let's face it, even if adults put on a disapproving face when their kids start talking about farts, deep down they know (as do their kids) that farts are just plain funny and something that toes the line between disgusting and hilarious. So Walter is the perfect character, a dog who has a gas problem and quite a problem it is. Just reading this book makes most adults and kids break into giggles and it is just plain fun to read - again and again.

The title caught my eye at the book store and when I started to read this book I laughed until I cried! I kept snorting with laughter right there in the store. Walter is an average dog with an unfortunate problem - gas. This book is sure to delight all who read it. The adults I work with also got a kick out of the illustrations (we played Find the Spider). It also has such a sweet message... we all have a place in this world, a talent all our own. A wonderful book that is sure to delight all readers.

Not only is the book funny and entertaining, there is an underlying message here. There is good to be found in everyone. Poor Walter, a fat, rather ugly dog has a terrible gas problem. And while Father wants to take Walter to the pound, the children try everything possible to solve Walter's flatulence. After all fails, Father decides that if he can't restrain himself, Walter will go to the pound. Walter saves the night when two burglars break into the house and Walters fart disgusts them so much, they flee, and subsequently get captured by the police. Father decides to overlook Walters's indiscretions and allows him to stay.

My 4 year old son just loves the Walter the Farting Dog series. He's at the age where potty humor is hilarious, so this is the perfect book for him. He sits and pours over the book, looking at the details in the pictures. He actually thinks about the story (not just the farting) and asks questions about it. Who would have thought that a farting dog could be a great discussion starter? Yes, we laughed at the farting, but what better way to encourage a love of reading than with a book that's fun and at his level. Books 1 & 2 were our favorites.

Walter is wonderfully endearing, the children show classic love for another being regardless of his shortcomings. What a delightful approach to the discussion of body functions. We who have been raised in such proper homes that one does not say words such as "fart," take utter delight in showing this book to those with their noses in the air. We still don't say the word "fart" or "butt" in our home, but understand the use of those words. Why deny teaching our children the reality of life as it is?

This book is great! The authors are brilliant! My son had absolutely no interest in reading nor had the patience to sit still enough to read pretty much any book till now! Lets face it everyone farts, and dog-gone it, it's funny! You try not to laugh, thinking you'd be some kind of a bad influence on your kiddos, but c'mon you yourself are laughing inside! Most adults do not ever grow out of the laughter and humor they see in farts, right? See! You agreed! This had me and my boy laughing so hard we nearly had tears. The feeling of that bonding and seeing him so interested in reading was great! He now can't get ready fast enough for bed so he can read about Walter, the fart dog! Thank you, William Kotzwinkle, for sparking an interest in reading in my boy! This is truly a great start. Farts really do bring out the kid in everyone! Buy it now! Your kids will love it, trust me! You will love it too!

This is the kind of children's book I would write if I were a child's author. This is a hilarious book, and it even better when accompanied by the Walter plush toy. This is far superior to the subsequent Walter books, and is worth being on the same shelf with your other children's classics.

Poor Walter. He's a good dog with a smelly problem. No one wants him near except for a brother and sister who love him dearly. When their father threatens to take him away, they try everything to stop Walter from farting, but to no avail. How can Walter prove that he's worth keeping around? I adore this book. The story draws kids in and leaves them begging for more. Kids can relate to Walter's embarrassment at being different and not being able to help it. It's an excellent title for young children struggling with body identity and acceptance. Of course, it's an entertaining read for everyone. I'd recommend it for older preschoolers through early elementary students. It's also really fun to read aloud! (With sound effects, naturally.)

For those of you who are appalled by this little story, lighten up! Sure, talking about farts, burps or things of that sort are silly but hey, aren't children allowed to act or think silly anymore? It seems as though this society has forgotten how it was like to be a child and are forcing children to grow up too soon! Along with the Shakespeare you are reading them each night, why not throw in a little farting humor with Walter the Farting Dog. Your children will laugh and hey, you may just laugh along too! What a true lesson you'll be teaching your children, that reading is fun! Our dog farts a lot and my 7 year old son and I laugh about it. So, when I saw this book in the store I had to buy it! My son and I enjoy reading this silly book together.
