MSL Pointer Review:
An entertaining read talking about farts, burps or things of that sort, and it is an excellent title for young children struggling with body identity and acceptance. |

Walter, an apologetic-looking dog adopted from the pound, passes gas morning, noon, and night, no matter what he eats, whether it's a 25-pound bag of low-fart dog biscuits, cat food, or fried chicken. On the bright side, "If Uncle Irv let one slip, he just went and stood near Walter." When Father reaches the limit of his patience with Walter's flatulence, he decides the pooch is once again pound-bound, despite Betty and Billy's pleading. Poor Walter knows his days are numbered and "He resolved to hold in his farts forever." That very night, two burglars break into Walter's family's house, and (you can see where this is going) Walter gasses the burglars with a "hideous cloud" that forces them to drop their loot and run into the clutches of the police officers, "choking and gasping for air." The next morning Father and Mother discover Walter has saved the day-or at least their silverware and VCR. "And so the family learned to live with Walter, the hero dog. And that is the end of our tail." We hold this truth to be self-evident: farting makes kids laugh. It's a cute book. Most importantly, kids like to read it.

Has there ever been a more self-explanatory title? The family that brings Walter home from the pound quickly discovers his problem. Will a change of diet work? No. And, unfortunately, Walter doesn't seem to have much self-control when it comes to his failing.

Let's face it, even if adults put on a disapproving face when their kids start talking about farts, deep down they know (as do their kids) that farts are just plain funny and something that toes the line between disgusting and hilarious. So Walter is the perfect character, a dog who has a gas problem and quite a problem it is. Just reading this book makes most adults and kids break into giggles and it is just plain fun to read - again and again. |

The title caught my eye at the book store and when I started to read this book I laughed until I cried! I kept snorting with laughter right there in the store. Walter is an average dog with an unfortunate problem - gas. This book is sure to delight all who read it. The adults I work with also got a kick out of the illustrations (we played Find the Spider). It also has such a sweet message... we all have a place in this world, a talent all our own. A wonderful book that is sure to delight all readers. |

Not only is the book funny and entertaining, there is an underlying message here. There is good to be found in everyone. Poor Walter, a fat, rather ugly dog has a terrible gas problem. And while Father wants to take Walter to the pound, the children try everything possible to solve Walter's flatulence. After all fails, Father decides that if he can't restrain himself, Walter will go to the pound. Walter saves the night when two burglars break into the house and Walters fart disgusts them so much, they flee, and subsequently get captured by the police. Father decides to overlook Walters's indiscretions and allows him to stay. |

My 4 year old son just loves the Walter the Farting Dog series. He's at the age where potty humor is hilarious, so this is the perfect book for him. He sits and pours over the book, looking at the details in the pictures. He actually thinks about the story (not just the farting) and asks questions about it. Who would have thought that a farting dog could be a great discussion starter? Yes, we laughed at the farting, but what better way to encourage a love of reading than with a book that's fun and at his level. Books 1 & 2 were our favorites. |
