I read this book as a child and didn't appreciate the wisdom it offered in a small boy and a difficult flower. I stumbled upon it last year in a bookstore, and sitting on the floor in the children's section, I read with new eyes, finally recognizing the genius of Saint-Exupery. His way of revealing beauty, comforting loneliness, and recognizing truth is utterly compelling. This story is a model of what true friendship between two unlikely people can be. Discovery outweighs fear, beauty outweighs eventual sadness and loss - the risk is worth it. One phrase sums up the entire book, and, therefore, friendship and love. When situations get difficult, when people are lost, or sad, or may cause you pain, remember the fox who knew the value of a single person. The color of wheat.

Having been given this book by a friend who was leaving to return home to live in Australia, I was somewhat surprised at what looked like a children’s book being preferred as a good-bye present. This soon changed. The story is a gentle tale, dealing with perceptions and friendship, loss and hope. Everyone who reads this book seems to take something different from it, be it adults or children. Katherine Woods's translation is the only one I have read, but I feel compelled to draw parallels to the Paulo Coelho book, The Alchemist, in that it is without doubt an inspirational read.

I thought this was an extraordinary book. It taught me so many things about growing up and all about life. Some people found it hard to understand because of the metaphors, but I think it's just a matter of whether you want to take the time to understand it or not. When I started reading The Little Prince, I thought it would just be another boring book that was assigned to us, just to waste our time. This was so much more than just a book I was forced to read, it was one of the very few that I enjoyed reading. From talking flowers to laughing stars, this book kept me interested. I followed the boy through the journey of his life from the unhappy parts such as the baobabs, to the happy touching moment such as the laughing stars. This is a truly touching book and I plan on reading it again some time in the future.

One of the fondest memories of my life was reading The Little Prince in the 5th grade. This book was the best description I had ever read of what was truly important in life. It answered all of my questions as to why adults sooner or later stop "believing"... I love the little prince with all of my heart.

When I first started to read this book I was wondering why I was reading this book for an Advanced Placement class. By the time I was finished I realized that this book is so deep I don’t know if I will ever get the full meaning. The book is good for children because of how it is written. The author tells about the little prince's adventures on different planets and on the earth. It’s very imaginative and simple. Because of this, I didn’t see the many underlying messages at first. I don’t want to spoil anything so let’s just say that once I was done with this book I was a changed. It gave me new insights to the world around me that I had never thought about. I came away from his book with on of the best feelings. I have never been so excited after a book, I’m usually just thankful I’m finally done. This book I actually want to read again. This book is great for both children and adults. I recommend it to everyone.

My mom bought me this book when I was about 10 years old. I liked the pictures and the story captured my imagination. It seemed special, especially since my mom gave it to me. I read it again when I was about 16 and was blown away. I cried and cried. The insights I had gained between 10 and 16, I discovered, sat in the story, like little sparkling jewels half buried in sand. I read it again when I was about 22. Again, the depth of this little book surprised me, and again I was in tears. The last time I read it, I was about 25 and felt no less amazement than before at the spiraling depths of this simple story. (This book always makes me cry.) This is a book that grows with you. The story is enchanting and contains within its pages so many precious lessons, like little secrets - keys to life - revealed to the reader in stages, as the heart and mind grows and opens enough to perceive them. This book is a pure treasure, and I recommend it for everyone, young and old. I look forward to reading it again... and again... and again.
