MSL Pointer Review:
A family musical book which is a light-hearted presentation of a mixture of great 20th century musical styles. |

This is the best music CD for families I've ever found. The music is fun, mostly swing-influenced, and subtly funny. My 4-year-old son constantly requests to hear "Figadebby Chickens", even though he has to hear "Cows" first for his life to be complete. He sings along to every song, dances when we're at home, and generally loves it. My 1-year-old bounces up and down and cackles while he listens and watches his big brother. I sing "Snuggle Puppy" to the baby as I put him to sleep. I tell every family I know about Philadelphia Chickens, just because I love it so much. It has actually spurred an interest in music in my older son. I can't give it higher praise than that. |

This book/CD combo has been a joyous and wonderful surprise and has gained a permanent place in our "family favorites" list. A gift to our daughter, my husband and I both listen to the CD in the car even when our daughter is not with us. Smart, hilarious, and absolutely charming. Highlights include Scott Bakula crooning "Pig Island, Pig Island, what a glorious place to be"; a half-whispered, hilarious ode to the belly-button ("patty pat pat, baby fat, little round button in the middle of that") (the arrangement sounds strangely like Madonna on the Vogue tour, but all lyrics are clean family fare); and Kevin Kline sounding very much the Modern Major General as he sings "Busy, Busy, Busy." (You'll hum it under your breath at work.) It's ALL good... not a dud song on the CD... and the accompanying book is colorful, delightful, and full of Boynton's trademark animals. We can't recommend this highly enough to anyone who enjoys a good musical... we're talking to grownups here, not just kids... this is good stuff. |

My 6-year-old son has been a fan of Sandra Boynton's books since birth (her Going to Bed Book was the first bedtime story we read to him). I have been a fan of her artwork on greeting cards, mugs, etc. for much, much longer! After reading the reviews I decided to get Philadelphia Chickens for my son for Christmas this past year. I was a little apprehensive since some of the poems were already in other books we had read. But the music! Ah, the music! My son absolutely loves the book and CD. He listens to a CD to fall asleep at night. We couldn't use this one because it kept him up, listening to every word! Now we use it to wake him up in the morning. We loved the book/CD so much that I turned around and bought copies for his cousins. My sister-in-law says it was a mixed gift - now she can't get the songs out of her head! Great CD for both kids and their parents. |

We are constantly on the lookout for good quality music that appeals to our toddler but that doesn't simultaneously drive the adults in the house bonkers. Never fear, parents, you too will love these lively and very, very funny songs. My only warning is that some of them will get stuck in your head, so you're like to find yourself in public singing, "We're cows, such remarkable cows..."! |

We've always loved the Boynton books, and Pajama Time has been a bedtime favorite... but you don't get the full effect until you hear it to music. We love the CD. It is fun children’s music that is witty and humorous for adults too. A favorite is "Faraway Cookies" which is a heart-wrenching ode to the cookie jar on the shelf. So much of the music for children is annoying, but this is fantastic! |

This was the best purchase I've made in ages! The songs are fun, the musicianship is impressive, the lyrics are silly and sweet and the illustrations are adorable. Kids and adults alike will love this homage to all different styles of music. My 17 month-old daughter could listen to it over and over again - and I don't mind letting her! She dances as soon as we put it on and doesn't stop until it's over. You can't beat this one for your budding music lover. I wish Sandra Boynton and Michael Ford would put out a series of these! |

My girls (6, 4 and 18 months) LOVE this CD! So do I! I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The girls quickly learned all the songs and sing and dance every time we play it - which is almost every day. My 18 month old will beg for it, calling it "Cows", after the first song. She even goes to sleep each night with it on! Frankly, we never look at the book - this is purely a listening pleasure in our house for both kids and grown-ups. |
