Teens and adult readers can't get enough of Gossip Girl, the anonymous narrator who made her catty debut in the bestselling Gossip Girl and titillated readers in the juicy sequel. |
- MSL Picks -
Gossip Girl is back in its 3rd installment and the gossip is hotter than ever. Its Christmas time in the prestigious Upper East Side of New York and that means midterms, presents, breakup and get togethers, and college essays.
Serena and Blair are friends again, and back to their old tricks and scandals. Partie, limo rides with celebrities, and jetting off to the island of St. Barts for Christmas vacation with a bunch of friends are just some of the antics Blair and Serena are up to so they can blow off some steam after midterms. On the wild beaches of St. Barts theres plenty of scandal and backstabbing as Blair flirts with her stepbrother Aaron's drummer friend Miles while Aaron is trying to suppress his feeling for Blair himself. Meanwhile Blair is still trying to write her Yale essay, based on who else but her idol Audrey Hepburn, even though she knows she been putting it off for way too long. After a botched Yale interview, the essay is extremely important if she wants a ticket to Yale.
The sophisticated Serena has got problems on her hands too, trying to fend off the affections of Flow, the sexy lead singer of the band Komunik8, whose got every girl at Constance Billard School drooling over him. When everyone returns to New York from St. Barts to attend Serena's party, things heat up between Blair and her ex-boyfriend Nate and his new girlfriend Jenny, whose only 14, but has got totally huge attributes in the chest area. Then theres Danny, Jenny's big brother, the romantic poet whose still trying to sort out with Vanessa the should we do it or not issue in their relationship.
All and all the 3rd book in the series was another worthy installment of guilty pleasure but I though the previous 2 were better. The plot lines were a bit choppy and not that intricately connected like the previous two. The characters have many new developments and the identity of Gossip Girl is becoming more interesting. A fan scandalous read that I definitely recommend.

Target readers:
Teens, young adults.

Cecily von Ziegesar, a writer who is definitely of the world about which she writes - she attended a fancy Manhattan prep school and lived to tell all about it. She walks the walk and talks the talk, so her characters and their conversations and antics ring completely true.

It's Chrismastime and Blair and Serena are best friends again and up to their old tricks-partying hard and breaking hearts from Park Avenue to the Caribbean.Blair's mom and Cyrus are having their honeymoon in Salt Key. And when school lets out for the holiday, Blair, Serena, Aaron, and company head down there to blow off steam after their midterm exams. In between Pia Coladas and topless sunbathing, Blair and Serena plot revenge on super-jerk Chuck Bass. Everyone jets back to NYC for Serena's New Year's party, during which Nate and Blair may or may not finally go all the way, and Serena may or may not be discovered to be the secret fling of Hollywood's hottest young leading man.

Okay I finished reading All I Want is Everything about a month ago and it's still buzzing in my head. Blair and Serena become so happy together. Blair made me laugh out loud with some of the stuff she thinks and Serena's beauty and... blondness is hilarious. Nate is absolutely wicked in this book which makes me love him more. Jenny turns into a creepy physco. Aaron brings in the picture his hot friend Miles who gets dirty with Blair... hint hint. This is absolutely captivating and I finished it in half an hour. You just want more and more. This is the best book yet personally. There's way more clothes, drinking, sex, and drugs in this one which makes it even more juicier. You're steaming over who's Gossip Girl and you get a few hints. Every gossiper should read this book.

Serena and Blair are friends again (so fast?) and back to their old ways of hard drinking, chain smoking, and just partying it up all the time. Ok, I'll admit it, I do miss the whole fight dynamic they had in the first two books...
Nate is just as frustrating as usual. He's suddenly having second thoughts about Jenny (finally) and beginning to think that maybe Blair wasn't so bad after all. Dan and Vanessa are together, but they just can't seem to just get down and have sex! Hmm, sound familiar, anyone? Poor Aaron, hopelessly in love with his stepsister (eww!) and rejected at every turn.
I hate to say it, but I find myself actually caring about these characters. Like, I want Blair to get into Yale, I want Serena to get with Aaron, and for God's sake, I really want Kati and Isabel to just come out of the closet and admit that they're in love with each other. But what I want most of all is to find out who Gossip Girl really is, although that would spoil everything... oh well. Can't wait for the fourth installment in the fall!

Everyone who says Gossip Girl is trashy and the characters are spoiled and slutty, etc, etc, is completely right.
I do not read these books to stimulate my mind. I read them because they are amusing. It's all fiction and most Gossip Girl readers are very aware of that. Just because these books contain sexual elements, drugs, whatever, does not mean all girls out there will try it all! I read Gossip Girl, but there is no way I'm ever going to be doing anything Serena or Blair or Jenny are doing. Hello? Girls are not complete idiots who will try and do whatever we read about. Most of us have brains. Gossip Girl contains nothing worse than a movie an average female teenager would watch anyway. Lighten up.
All I Want Is Everything is truly a funny, light read, great if you need some cheering up. If you want something heavier, serious, and still awesome, try Megan McCafferty or Ann Brashares.

You Will Love This Book!
I was lucky enough to secure an advanced copy from my sources, and I just finished it last night!
This is the best of the three! If you thought You Know You Love Me was good, just wait!
I won't spoil it, but there are so many hook-ups, your head will spin! Let's see... Jenny/Nate, Serena/Flow (this rock star...yes, Famous Rock Star), Blair/Miles (Aaron's friend), Aaron/Serena, Dan/Vanessa, Chuck/Isabella/Katie (sorta), and my fav....Blair/Nate!
Serena and Blair are friends again, which (stinks), cuz we all love the drama! Everyone's all hyped over this Caribbean thing, it's not that great. In my opionion, the whole Nate/Jenny/Central Park underwear movie (yes, you did read that right) was much better.
But don't you dare think it's the "cleanest" one, we know everyone too well for that. It's far from clean, and I think it tops You Know You Love Me.
Does Blair get into Yale? We still won't know! There's too much "Omigod, I have to get into Yale" thing! She Misses a Party To Finish An Application! That's just not Blair. And sadly, Jenny gets even more obcessive over Nate, to an almost creepy point. I don't know what it is about Jenny, but I personally think she and Nate are all wrong. Nate belongs with Blair and it's so obvious!
And finally, Cyrus and Blair's mom have a huge suprise! I'm guessing you have an idea... about "planting a little Rose"!
This is the best of the best! Trust me, you will love it! |
