Maurice Sendak's "Mommy?" is an interesting pop-up book which deals with a young lad dressed in blue and red attire who encounters some strange creatures in search of his mother. Among the creatures that this lad encounters as he enters a haunted house, we have a wolf-man, a Frankenstein's monster, a Bride of Frankenstein, a mummy, and a goblin. Each of these individuals are addressed the following question, "Mommy?" Some of the monsters try to scare and impale the lad, but not only is the lad not scared, he pulls some rather amusing jokes, mostly consisting of the disfiguring of their protective coverings.

They're all here! Everybody's favorite monsters are just going about their business when a plucky little boy wanders into their cuckoo house. And what does he want? He wants Mommy!
No matter how scary these monsters are, there's no besting a little boy who's looking for his mommy. In one hilarious pop-up extravaganza after another, this kid shows them a thing or two.

This book is fantastic!!! My two-year-old grandson adores it. We sometimes hide the book under the blanket to avoid reading it 5 or 6 times before he goes to bed. Now he reads it himself! A real work of art and not scary at all, in spite of all the monsters.

Sendak's imagination and artistic style, along with Yorinks' and Reinhart's skill and expertise with production, have resulted the most imaginative, unique, fun book I've seen in a long time! Since my (grown up) "kids" are great fans of Where the Wild Things Are from way back in their childhoods, I got copies for all of them for Halloween. Everyone who sees the book loves it, and the very intricate and complicated folding and cutting it took to make such complex pop-ups is beyond my understanding; however, it certainly adds an amazingly wonderful dimension to Sendak's book.

I bought this book for my newly 4-yr-old son who expressed a fear of monsters. When he saw the silly monsters in this book, it was a great jumping off point to address his fears. Plus, he loves the other Maurice Sendak books he has.

I'm always on the lookout for new, books to share with my third graders. I was so excited to see Maurice Sendak's new book Mommy? I eagerly shared it with my students. Because there are no words, they were able to tell the story many different ways, and from different points of view. The paper engineering kept them anxioulsly waiting to see what was in store next. I would highly recommend this book to stimulate talk about character, setting, plot, problem and solution. Every time we reread it we find something new to make us smile.
