Jeffrey Freed's book was so good that I had to contact the author and thank him. His book helped me to understand how gifted some of our so-called "Learning Disabled" children really are.
The part that really got my attention was his assertion that "Right-Brained people, almost without exception, make the best speed readers (see p. 119)." You see, I am a speed reading teacher.
After reading his book, I took special effort to note how Right-Brain dominant children did in my speed reading classes (this was fairly easy, since he has questionaires on pages 48 to 50 that help identify Right-Brain dominance). The differences between the Right-Brained and Left-Brained children in my classes was amazing. Based on my experience, Mr. Freed is right on target. Right-Brained people really do make the best speed readers. Jeffrey Freed's discovery was so important that when I updated my own book (Speed Reading 4 Kids) in 2000, I needed to add a new chapter explaining these differences.
I often recommend this book to parents of ADD, ADHD and Dyslexic children so they can understand their children's different learning needs.

Great book! A must read for both parents and teachers. On page 52, the left-right brain continuum is featured showing how at the beginning of the right brain there is ADD, going further right is Dyslexia, and at the far right we see Autism. Parents, teachers, everyone involved with children need to realize that right brained children have a lot to offer. It's time to get involved join the 20th century, and change the left brain schools. It's not what our children are learning, it's how they learn that will let them all suceed. |

This book is not just a how-to book for ADD parents and teachers, but it gives insight and explanation about the educational process for each individual subject. It is amazing how quickly you get results by following the instructions for not only ADD kids, but most kids in America today. We have become a visually stimulated society hence more people have become visual learners. The schools need to teach visually, not auditorialy ie (lectures). I have read many books on ADD, but I cant live without this one. Each year I purchase a copy for my son's next teacher so that he and everyone else in the class can benefit from the wisdom in this book. |
