His sales advice is simple, applicable and, above all else, effective. His work is full of tips that help you get better results. If you think that you don't need another book on sales, getAbstract would reply with a classic Schiffman: "You know, a lot of other people told me the same thing before they had the chance to see how this book could help them increase sales."
(From quoting Rolf Dobelli, Switzerland)
Target readers:
All salespeople, sales managers, customer service representatives, call center salespeople and sales trainers.

I picked up this book, and several others, on cold-calling because I knew I just was not doing it the best way I could. I have been in sales for years and I HATE cold-calling. Who doesn't? This book helped me focus on what is really important - setting appointments and getting in front of the customer and provide personal contact. I lost that focus somewhere and my cold-calls were flat. I sell HR and OD consulting and getting senior executives and HR Directors to give you the time of day is very difficult. Since reading the book and implementing his suggestions, I am much more comfortable cold-calling and setting 2.5 times as many appointments.
The book is easy to read and full of simple ideas and solutions, but if you don't implement the ideas, even the greatest of ideas won't work. Give this book a read. ... it is the best money I have spent in a long time.
Also, his ideas about getting people to call you back are so simple and effective, I almost laughed when I started receiving so many call-backs. Just goes to show you, give his ideas a chance, even if you think they won't work.

An earlier edition of Stephan Schiffman's Cold Calling Techniques was one of the first sales books I purchased when a became an insurance agent in 1999.
The book gave a plan of action for setting appointments with business decision makers, and provided good workable techniques for making the calls that get the appointments. After all anyone with any sales experience knows, the more appointments you set, the more sales you will make.
The current edition, like the earlier one, is quick and easy to read, but a sales pro will be drawn in to re-reading several portions to get the valuable techniques being offered.
As I have gained experience, I make it a point to go back to Cold Calling Techniques to purge myself of any bad habits that can develop over time, and I find it valuable to this day.
My original copy is tattered and worn from being carried in my briefcase for five years, and re-read regularly. I am sure my new edition will look the same in time. |

While times have changed, and different types of sales and salespeople have emerged, the concept of making a cold call hasn't changed much. This book is a MUST READ for any sales rep that must cold call (by the way, this is every rep in the world).
It spends some time on the mental concepts of cold calling, approaching the philosophy in many different ways. Everyone can find something to associate here.
It's the same thing with the scripts and approaches. Some people will find some of the corny or silly, but there are others that are right on the mark. Remember that a single approach doesn't work for every prospect.
It's also a quick read, with accountability and prescriptive assessments. I've read it several times and buy it for every salesperson whose ever worked for me. There's no better book on the subject. |
