The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz is an attempt at breaking the shackles humans place on themselves through their conditioning in the society. Don Ruiz presents a fluid discourse on the possibility of BREAKING FREE of the conditioning through the practice of 4 simple yet powerful agreements one can make with himself. The artistic presentation of the agreements sticks to a simple language that everybody can understand with ease. The agreements themselves are very simple, but Don Ruiz excels at exploring the meaning and the power behind them through simple examples that everybody can associate with. The agreements are:
Agreement #1: Be impeccable with your word.
Words have started wars and led masses to perpetrate unimaginable crimes. Words also have healed the deepest of human sufferings. The first agreement therefore is to honor the power of words and to use words impeccably.
Agreement #2: Do not take things personally.
Everybody lives in a dream of their own, in their own projection of people and the surroundings around them. Looking in that light, it is impossible for someone to "truly" understand another person. Hence it is best to not take things personally, and rather adopt the "What do you care what others think" attitude.
Agreement #3: Do not make assumptions.
If not sure, always ask the questions to understand the position of the other person. Also do not assume that someone else should know how you feel without you expressing your feelings. Even in the closest relationships, it is best not to make assumptions.
Agreement #4: Do the best you can.
If one does the best one can to follow the above three agreements, one will have no regrets about not living life to the full. Even if life does not unfold in the most fruitful way one desires, one at least will be satisfied that he/she did the best.
I highly recommend this book, especially the unabridged Audio of it. The clarity in the expression is outstanding and is guaranteed to excite many emotions in you as you go through the presentation.
The prayers at the end of the book are also very powerful.
I thoroughly enjoyed and associated myself with this book. I can guarantee anyone that there is something in this material that will touch a deeper part of you, no matter what your beliefs are!

The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship

Don Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers, and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and a nagual (shaman) grandfather. The family anticipated that Miguel would embrace their centuries-old legacy of healing and teaching, and carry forward the esoteric Lotec knowledge. Instead, distracted by modern life, Miguel chose to attend medical school and become a surgeon.
A near-death experience changed his life. Late one night in the early 1970s, he awoke suddenly, having fallen asleep at the wheel of his car. At that instant the car careened into a wall of concrete. Don Miguel remembers that he was not in his physical body as he watched himself pull his two friends to safety.
Stunned by this experience, he began an intensive practice of self-inquiry. He devoted himself to the mastery of the ancient ancestral wisdom, studying earnestly with his mother, and completing an apprenticeship wit a powerful shaman in the Mexican desert. His grandfather, who had since passed on, continued to teach him in his dreams.
In the tradition of The Toltec, a nagual guides an individual to personal freedom. Don Miguel Ruiz, a nagual from the Eagle Knight lineage, has dedicated his life to sharing the wisdom of the ancient Toltec.

While reading the book The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom. A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz, I kept on nodding my head in agreement and saying to myself, "I agree with that, it makes sense".
Don Miguel says that the four agreements will transform our lives. He says to be impeccable with our word, to not take anything personally, to not make assumptions, and to do our best from moment to moment, are the keys to this transformation.
Another book I have read recently that recommends living in the moment, is Ariel and Shya Kane's book Working on Yourself Doesn't Work. I had the same reaction while reading this book, the nodding of my head and the "I agree with that, it makes sense". With their three principles for living in the moment, I am finding that I am resisting less the way my life is showing up.
I am walking around with a smile on my face and people are asking me "What's Up?" and I tell them that I am happy, or happier than I have been in a long time. Thank you to all three authors, you are making living my life easier!
