Didn't close the book until it was finished. Timeless principles and a great book for leaders who want to be great - Leadership all is simply influence nothing more nothing less. |

Every American should read this book. Lee Iacocca is a hero to those who worked for Chrysler during the 1970-1990 period - and to those who held its stock during those years. He persuaded Congress to lend $10 billion to the company, and then paid back every dime.
Now he criticizes the Bush administration, the Democrats, the young, and the rest of us - and he is absolutely right in every respect. Bush is a disaster; the Democrats have no courage; the young are over-entertained; and the rest of us fail to demand that our political leaders lead us in sensible directions. |

For those who don't know, Lee Iacocca is the former CEO of Chrysler, and played a large role in rescuing that company from the brink of financial disaster. This book, his first in a decade, is an enjoyable collection of his thoughts on politics, the auto industry, and a wide variety of other subjects.
Iacocca is 82 now, and is very blunt and colorful in his opinions. He has a very poor opinion of President Bush, who he describes as a "clueless bozo" who lacks the leadership qualities to be a good President. Fans of the Bush administration will probably not like this book, but keep in mind that Iacocca is a political independent who has supported both Democrats and Republicans in the past. In fact, Iacocca endorsed Bush in 2000 and recently supported the Republican candidate for governor in Michigan in the last election. So he is hardly a knee-jerk partisan. Either way, I found his political observations both entertaining and illuminating.
I also found Iacocca's opinions of the auto industry to be interesting. He strongly believes that Detroit should now be building smaller cars. He applauds GM for dumping the Oldsmobile brand and wonders why they haven't done the same thing with the Saturn brand yet. Iacocca also has a very poor opinion of the Daimer-Benz/Chrysler merger, and has sharp words for his CEO successor, Bob Eaton. It's all very fascinating stuff.
All in all, this is a fun, no-nonsense book by a man unafraid to speak his mind. It's a nice antidote to the slick talking heads on cable tv. |

Enjoyed this book a lot. Well written presentation of Iacocca's views and experiences. This guy is a straight shooter. Refreshing. Very hard on Bush. (With the book's title, one might expect that.) This book is a lot biography, which I enjoyed. Difficult to put down! My wife's reaction was the same. |

This is an outstanding book and far better than Giuliani's book on leadership. It should be compulsory reading for anyone in America. It is typical Iacoca, plain, direct and blunt spoken, a little rough around the edges from a writing perspective, but full of the best thoughts on what leadership really is all about and clear ideas on what we should do to extricate America from its present dilemmas. I wish Mr. Iacoca were 20 years younger and could run for president himself. We need him. I also wish he and I were personal friends as he is the kind of person I would like to have in my life. |

Straight talk about leadership or lack thereof. In America these days we have plenty of the latter both in Government and Corporate America. I am sick of it. For one thing, the words politician has become a dirty word, as has CEO. I don't generally find the time to vote feeling the one vote I cast does not matter, but in the next presdential election, I feel compelled to vote for the candidate who is the "best" leader, however vote for who? In the last election, John Carey would have got my vote, but I let him down as did - probably - millions of others in the silent majority. Hopefully, a candidate will emerge by the next election, who is worthy of the trust and respect of hard working, taxpaying Americans. Yes, Mr. Iacocca's concern for the middle class concerns me too, but we need to come forward and seek out what precious little leadership - relal leadership - may still exist to get this country back on track. Till then, I will try to keep an open mind, and earnestly hope to be pleasantly surprised because it would be greatly uplifting to gain renewed faith in our elected leaders, and corporate executives. |

Lee Iacocca has hit the nail on the head. He has a true concept of what is wrong with America. There are a lot of great leaders out there. They are bogged down in government interfernce, apathy, and citizens who have lost their perspective on what is important. We have come to accept 2nd best in everthing including our leaders. Read the book and then communicate your displeasure with the current state of affairs. Most important question your leaders and VOTE! |

Iacocca demands a lot from Washington and leaders. In this book his armchair style requires the reader to adopt a 'contrarian' approach, one that Iacocca himself values. He is brash, outspoken, albeit he nails it. Iacocca's comment on 'staying the course' sums it all up! Leaders, managers, individuals need to return to the basics of leadership or post their resume. Weakness and medicrity result from management by the masses. Washington, Boston, New York, business, non-profits, you and me -this book is for all. Read this book, practice 50% and others will follow. A great, brief read. |

This was quite a good book to read. He kept you interested the whole way through. We should all take a lesson from him and listen to him. Maybe he should run for president! Very informative and a easy book to read. Once you start, you cant stop until its done. |

This book, written by Lee Ioccoca, is one of the best I have ever read. He is extremely knowlegeable and accurate in his analysis of what's going on with our political system in America. He's on top of it and details the problems of our leadership and the people running for president in year 2008. The book is very interesting and an easy read. He has a lot of humor and is not afraid to use it. I highly recommend this book. It's a winner. |

Iacocca has written an amazing piece, inciting hope in me for our tomorrow. I have lent my copy out now to a half-dozen friends and am trying to get more people reading this book and listening to what it has to say. I am young. I am a veteran of 6 years. I am a college student. I am in love. I am a leader. I am a voice. This is who I am, this book really made me say "Yeah, let's do this!" |
