"True and lasting happiness will come into your life the day you get the clear realization that you can overcome any weakness - the day you realize that your subconscious can solve your problems, heal your body, and prosper you beyond your fondest dream". – Joseph Murphy
Dr. Joseph Murphy wrote, taught, counseled, and lectured to thousands all over the world for nearly fifty years.
He was educated in Ireland and England. Years of research studying the world's major religions convinced him that some great Power lay behind them all: The Power is within you!
Dr. Murphy was Minister-Director of the Church of Divine Science in Los Angeles for 28 years, where his lectures were attended by 1,300 to 1,500 people every Sunday.
His daily radio program during all that time was immensely popular. He moved to Laguna Hills, California in 1976, where he continued to speak every Sunday until he made his transition in 1981.
Murphy refused requests for profiles and biographies, saying that his life was to be found in his books. He wrote over 30, including The Amazing Laws of Cosmic Mind, Secrets of the I-Ching, The Miracle of Mind Dynamics, Your Infinite Power to Be Rich and The Cosmic Power Within You.
Murphy was influenced by Ernest Holmes and Emmet Fox, both well known writers on New Thought principles, but his academic back- ground was in Eastern religion. He spent many years in India, and was an Andhra Research Fellow at the University of India.
Dr Murphy spent a good part of his life studying Eastern religions, and was a scholar of the I-Ching, the Chinese book of divination whose origins are lost in history.
Joseph Murphy, Ph.D., D.D., was a world-renowned authority on mysticism and mind dynamics. He remains a beacon of enlightenment and inspiration for legions of loyal followers.
"You were born to be rich. You grow rich by the use of your God-given faculties, by tuning in with the Infinite, and as your mind becomes productive and full of good ideas, your labor will become more productive and will bring you all kinds of material riches."
"There is no virtue whatsoever in poverty, which in actual fact is a mental disease, and it should be abolished from the face of the earth. You are here to find your true place in life, and to give of your talents to the world. You are here to expand and unfold in a wonderful way, according to a God-given potential, and to bring forth spiritual, mental, and material riches, which will bless humanity in countless ways.
Learn how to surround yourself always with beauty, and luxury, and realize your inalienable right to live, liberty, freedom and peace of mind.
"It is your Divine right to dramatize, reveal, portray and express the power, elegance, and riches of the Infinite One."
"I have seen miracles happen to men and women in all walks of life all over the world." - Dr. Joseph Murphy.
Dr. Murphy teaches the simple, scientifically proven techniques and the astonishing facts about how your subconscious powers can perform miracles of healing.
How lung cancer has been cured and optic nerves made whole again. How you can use the newly discovered Law of Attraction to increase your money-getting powers. How your subconscious mind can win you friends, peace of mind, and even help you to attract the ideal mate.
How your dreams can help you solve problems and make difficult decisions - or warn you of potential disaster. Prosperity, happiness and perfect health are yours when you use The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind.
Murphy saw the subconscious mind as a darkroom within which we develop the images that are to be lived out in real life.
While the conscious mind sees an event, takes a picture of it and remembers it, the subconscious mind works backwards, `seeing' something before it happens (why intuition is infallible).
The subconscious responds to habit and habitual thinking. Being totally neutral in a moral sense, it is happy to adopt any habit as `normal' - good or bad.
We blithely let negative thoughts drop into the subconscious every minute of our lives, then are surprised when they find expression in day to day experiences and relationships.
While there are some things that will happen to us that we had no role in creating, these are in fact rare. Mostly, the bad that happens is in us already, waiting for the light of day.
Understanding your subconscious mind as a photographic mechanism removes the emotion and struggle from changing your life, because if it is simply a matter of replacing existing mental images with new ones, you begin to see the ease with which you may change.
”The law of your mind is the law of belief itself,” Murphy says. What we believe makes us who we are. William James observed that whatever people expect to be true, will be so, irrespective of whether the object of their belief exists in fact.
In the West we have made “the truth” our highest value; this motivation, while important, is weak next to the actual power of belief in shaping our lives. Whatever you give your subconscious - false or true, good or evil - it will register as fact.
The term subconscious mind is used to refer to your own individual storehouse of knowledge and memories. The term "superconscious", or "universal mind", "God", and sometimes in hypnosis the term "unconscious" are used to refer to the infinite storehouse of knowledge, which you access through your subconscious mind.
There is ONLY ONE Mind, but for the convenience we have divided it linguistically into three minds, according to its functions - conscious, subconscious and superconscious. You can imagine that there is one door standing between your conscious and subconscious mind and another between your subconscious and superconscious. You access both your subconscious and superconscious by getting the critical faculty of your conscious mind out of the way and the easiest way to do this is by fully engaging your imagination and your emotions.
Because you access your subconscious and superconscious mind in the same way, people sometimes just use the term "subconscious" to refer to both functions. Instead of using the world superconscious, Murphy sometimes uses he word "God" - which I like, but some people feel very uncomfortable with due to their religious upbringing or lack of understanding and direct experience (A Course in Miracles is one books that may help in that respect).
Your conscious mind is that part of your mind that judges things and contemplates whether you can or cannot do something. It compares things and when you attempt to use your conscius mind and work on some goal, it may pop up with all the reasons why something may not be possible for you to do. Your subconscious mind goes for DIRECT EXPERIENCE. It doesn't judge whether something is possible or impossible, good or bad - it merely ACCEPTS as true and real whatever you EXPERIENCE as REAL subjectively.
When you pick a goal to work on with your subconscious, make sure that it is something that is BELIEVABLE to you. Whatever ideas you desire to impress upon your subconscious mind will work in conjunction with that which is already in your subconcious mind - so if the ideas and beliefs which are currently in your subconscious are in conflict with your desired goal, it will take you a long time to experience the desired results. If you begin with things you are willing to accept as possible for you, you'll get much faster results and you'll also condition your mind for success and to the world of many new wonderful possibilities.
Also, keep in mind, that you are in one way or another programming your subconscious mind with every thought you think. So, if you are using self-hypnosis to help you create greater abundance and you are working on your goal for half an hour a day, then you spend the other 23 hours contemplating how you don't have money to pay the bills, you're just undoing all that work you invested in self-hypnosis. Once you are done with your mind-programming, whenever you think of your goal, you'll make it happen much faster if you spend time expecting the positive outcome and giving thanks that what you desire is already yours, or at least that it is on its merry way to you.
This lovely book teaches you how to use the power of your mind in many different areas in your life. It also provides examples from the lives of others who have successfully used the power of their mind to overcome numerous obstacles and create what their hearts desired. This little stories may serve you as an inspiration until you have an assortment of your own success stories to tell - and if you genuinely apply the principles in this book, you'll have many great stories of your own.

Although originally produced over 40 years ago, this version was updated in 2000. The book is broken down into chapters on Wealth, Health, and Relationships among others. There are good examples of affirmations in each chapter, but I think that it is best to customize your own affirmations, using the examples in the book as guidelines. Although controlling your own thoughts through the use of affirmations is a central principle in this book, there is also some good information here with respect to the impact of negative thoughts as well. The book makes good use of real-life examples which serve to illustrate the central principles. I have read many works on positive thinking and the use of affirmations, but this is one of the best since it explains the flip-side of negativity and unforgiveness that can sabotage your efforts to improve yourself. This aspect sets the book apart from the others. It is also a very smooth and readable resource that goes by quickly, unlike others that can be a struggle to finish. |

This classic work explains the miracle of the power of mind in a clear and concise way and leads to continual self-improvement. Explaining the fact that each individual has two minds, the conscious and the subconscious, it proceeds to explain the function of each and how powerful the subconscious is. The great subconscious power must however be directed by the conscious mind, and that is the individual's responsibility. The various techniques for directing the subconscious, like affirmation and visualization, are clearly explained. Many helpful affirmations are provided to kick-start the process of healing and many examples are provided of how people solved their problems by correcting their thinking. This inspiring book is immensely therapeutic in cleaning cobwebs and dogmatic brainwashing from the mind. I recommend this as the very best entry point in the entire field of self-improvement. I also recommend Mind Magic by Marta Hiatt. Other authors whose work is also of great benefit in this regard, include Catherine Ponder, Louise Hay, Emmet Fox and Frederick Bailes. Joseph Murphy's books on cultivating a consciousness of prosperity are very helpful too. |

I had the good fortune to discover this book in a Barnes and Noble at probably the lowest point in my life. After reading it and applying the principles, things improved immeasurably. I became happier and more successful. I had been hanging around with a "bad crowd" and made new emotionally healthier, more fun friends. I had always struggled in school, but my grades improved, as well. I graduated from college, moved out of my parents' house, found an apartment and was able to go to Europe once a year! In short, thanks to this book, I was doing things that I wouldn't have even dreamed before.
I also recommend Claude Bristol's The Magic of Believing, Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking, and Shakti Gawain's Creative Visualization. If you want to improve your life and don't know where to start, order one of these books. They're cheap, and they work. |

This book has changed my life by attuning me to how life really works. I am convinced of the truths presented in this book, and I believe anyone can do anything if they apply the methods in this book. It explains what the Bible is really trying to say; the truths in the Bible are the same as the truths in all the great spiritual books thoughtout time. A must read for any human being. |
