This book is one of the greatest cook books. Recipes are varied and cover the whole gamut: sauces, breads, soups, meat, chicken, fish, and vegetarian entrees; pasta; vegetable, grain, and potato side dishes; and desserts. Many are familiar comfort foods, such as pizza, oven "fried" chicken, beef stew, tuna noodle casserole, chocolate layer cake, and cheesecake. Internationally inspired favorites include dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), orange-flavored fajitas, moo shu chicken, tandoori haddock, and Senegalese peanut soup. The nutritional breakdown for each recipe includes calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fiber, protein, calcium, and Weight Watchers' points.
First, it offers a comprehensive overview of the Weight Watchers philosophy outlining the Points System and the basics of nutrition. After the introduction, you get a whole lot of good recipes ranging from those suitable for a single person to for a whole family. It is organized by meat type and has a handy index of recipes. Each recipe is broken down to show you how many points are contained in the servings. For all recipes, each takes up at most one page, so you don't have to flip through pages mid-cooking. The book is spiral bound, which makes it very easy to use in the kitchen.
One of the nice things about this book is that it stresses the importance of using herbs and spices in your food, making the food pretty interesting and appetizing. Most recipes are concocted from easily found items that are not usually expensive, thus allowing you to lose weight while saving money and becoming healthier.
This cookbook was easy to understand and well organized. It is also very helpful around the holidays for appetizer and dessert ideas. Even for non-weight watchers these are some really good, useful and tasty recipes. - From quoting A. Grassia

This book is the one I use over and over again, I've made so many recipes from it. These recipes do not taste like "diet" food. Although they are low in fat, calories, and food points, they really taste good too. Some favorites I make regularly from this book are the Parmesan-Turkey Meatloaf, Shrimp Creole, Tuna-Noodle Casserole, Chicken Avgolemono Soup, Indian Carrot Soup, Hummus, and our absolute favorite - the Chicken Quesadillas with Corn-Tomato Salad. I brought the Rolled Orange Sponge Cake to a family gathering and everyone devoured it - no one would have guessed it only had 2 grams of fat per serving.
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a great all-around sourcebook for all kinds of healthy low-fat recipes that taste great and fit into a Weight Watchers plan or even anyone who is just looking for good, nutritious meals. The book is well laid out and has an excellent variety of reliable recipes. It's easy to read and browse through, has an adequate amount of photos, and contains all the nutrition information and points for each recipe. |

One of the best cookbooks for those trying to lose weight and then maintain that weight. Easy to follow instructions and lots of pictures to guide you through the process of cooking the meals. Most meals tak eless than 1 hour to make and can freeze a large amount of the recipes. Only 1 setback, though, not enough side dishes. I have owned this book for a year now, and have favorite recipes that my husband & I cook frequently. I am also able to adjust the ingredients if out of stock on items. A recommended cookbook for anyone wanting to try something different.

My husband and I have really enjoy everything we have tried for this cookbook. The recipes are flavorful and easy to prepare.
Our Favorite is the Chicken and Asparagus Stir-fry on page 106. We have it at least once a week. I love the Asparagus and he likes the chicken so I make more asparagus than the recipe calls for and the same amount of chicken. I eat most of the asparagus and he eats most of the chicken that way we are both happy.
Having lived in Japan for a few years I fell in love with Corn Chowder and have been searching for a good recipe. This book has one that tastes just like the cans from the vending machines in Japan. It is easy to prepare it only takes about 30 minutes and it calls for only a few non-staples.
Great book I recomend it to all cooks. Weither you cook often or not a lot. |

I've only had this cookbook for two weeks, but it has already totally re-shaped the way I cook. I don't have time to go to meetings and don't have the money to join Weight Watchers, but I DO count my points. Before this cookbook came along, I was hard-pressed to stay under 30 points per day, and my food was sooooo boring! I can easily stay under 22 points per day with this cookbook, and there's sooo much variety! I just sit down on Saturday and plan out my next week's menus, then pick everything up at the grocery store on Sunday morning. For a busy person like me, that works best, but if you're not quite as busy, you can probably plan your meals on a day-to-day basis. What's even better is that my fiance likes the meals, too... and he's not even trying to lose weight. About 3 1/2 pounds have come off in less than two weeks and my favorite pair of pants is so loose that I was stepping on my own pantlegs the other day. Great cookbook for those wanting to lose weight.
Only one word of warning: If you don't like to cook, or if you're wanting "simple" recipes, this is not the cookbook for you. I personally think the recipes are relatively simple, but I love to cook and have a ton of kitchen tools to make the dicing, slicing, chopping, and mincing a lot easier. I can see how someone who's not familiar with a kitchen would just throw this book on the pile with their other unused cookbooks; there's a lot of kitchen and food prep work in the recipes I've tried so far, so kitchen-phobes should stay away. |
