The #1 New York Times Bestseller from Jerry Sein, the actor in the sensationally successful TV show, Seinfeld, which had attracted 33 million viewers. |
- MSL Picks -
"I will never understand why they cook on TV. I can't smell it. Can't eat it. Can't taste it. The end of the show they hold it up to the camera, 'Well, here it is. You can't have any. Thanks for watching. Goodbye.'" - Jerry Seinfeld
A bookstore is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking. - Jerry Seinfeld
The great thing about Jerry Seinfeld's sense of humour is that he makes you see completely ordinary everyday circumstances as hilarious events. His jokes are familiar to you in a way because you make the same observations that he does but there is one very important difference between Jerry Seinfeld and the rest of us simple-minded peasants. Yeah, that's right, Jerry Seinfeld is actually funny. We can pretend all we want that we're positively one of the greatest undiscovered comedic geniuses whose talent for witticisms will have people laughing so hard that they pass out from oxygen deprivation but we're wrong. Jerry Seinfeld is one of those rare, mysterious people that can make you laugh without really even making an attempt at doing so. He's just funny. Period. He can't help it so even if he didn't want to be funny that would just be too bad. It's his fate, the poor man. He never had a chance. I mean choice! He never had a choice...
Seinlanguage by Jerry Seinfeld contains at least over a hundred and sixty of his well-known jokes on dating, clothing, travelling, food, and aging. I have heard quite a few of these jokes on the TV show Seinfeld enough times to memorise them but somehow they're still as funny as the first time I heard them. I really don't believe that it would be possible to grow tired of reading his jokes whilst picturing Jerry Seinfeld in my head acting them out and telling them in his familiar, distinctive voice. Not only do these jokes remind you of people you have known and therefore allow you to have a few laughs at their expense but they remind you of yourself as well, making you laugh at yourself and somehow not feel bad about doing so. Thus is the magic of Jerry Seinfeld.
(From quoting an American reviewer)

Jerry Seinfeld is a famous comedian starred Seinfield. In 2006, he ranked #28 among The Top 100 Celebrities in USA. His hit series about nothing just entered its third round in syndication. While most old hits lose steam over the years, Seinfeld, which went off the air eight years ago, still generates substantial ad revenue for cable. In addition to a piece of syndication, Seinfeld also pockets a cut of the show's DVD sales. Seinfeld was plenty busy this year - not that there's anything wrong with that. He wrote, produced and stars in a DreamWorks animated film Bee Movie, set for release next year. And, of course, he periodically returns to the stage to ply his original craft, stand-up comedy.

There's is something truly unique about this book. I think it's the fact that it has the capability to make you laugh out loud. Speaking as someone who adores comedy in all forms (Seinfeld being one of these forms) this book is really pretty incredible.
At first glance, I admit, it doesn't look like much. You figure that it's going to be full of jokes you've heard hundreds of times on the TV shows. Although this is partially true (some of the jokes ARE from the TV series), there's is much more to this book than meets the eye.
First of all, it is truly laugh-out-loud funny. I received this book as a gift for Christmas and I read the whole thing that same morning. I sat in an easy chair in my living room and read and read and read. Not only that, I laughed and laughed and laughed. Which is something I never do when reading. Watching films, yes. Talking with friends, yes. But reading? Who laughs when their reading? Me, apparently.
I'm actually a little afraid to take this book out in public with me because I'm afraid I'll start giggling uncontrollably and people will think I'm off my rocker. So BEWARE. Read this book in the safety of your own home. Because trust me, you won't be able to keep from laughing. |

Seifeld's book is awesome. He writes in the form of his standup throughtout the book. His introspective humor is insightful and witty. The topics that he writes about go from everyday things to the compulsive and peculiar. In my opinion, his quirky humor is unique and very well crafted, almost poetic. Seinfeld is the voice of the compulsive perfectionist, weaving a satire of all of the foibles of people and the world. Seinlanguage is a wonderful book and highly recommended. But people must know that Seinlanguage is not a biography. It is a book of his standup routines and jokes. But nevertheless, Seinlanguage is a must read for any Seinfeld fan.

Long story short, Seinlanguage is basically Jerry Seinfeld's early stand-up comedy routine. Fans of the comedian and show should already be familiar with the material presented, while those who have not experianced his "observational comedy" will be introduced to his material. I suggest that those in the latter should give it a try, though, as the material is very funny. However, the book itself may be the wrong medium to be introduced to the material. I often found that, being a fan, i was laughing as I read simply because I remembered Jerry's act. To get a better experiance, rent his I'm Telling you for the Last Time video.

Jerry Seinfeld has to be one of the funniest comedians in the world. His hit show Seinfeld is off the air, but if you still want to catch some of his silly humor, check out this book. Since he was fifteen he has been writing down silly thoughts that came to mind. Now he collected all of his abstract writings and put them in a book. This book is very easy to read. The pages contain short little stories that happen to everybody throughout life and he adds his quick little humourous comments. A lot of it is straight from the show. At times I found myself laughing out loud. This book is basically in the setup as if Seinfeld was on stage doing a comedy bit for you. I found this book a humorous buy and went through it in two days. |
