With the help of Abraham, a collective group of higher beings who channel their thoughts to Esther, Esther and Jerry Hicks have created another spiritual masterpiece. For those of you who somehow might have missed it, the Hick's first book, Ask and Is Given, started the Law of Attraction movement. It's one of the top 10 spiritual books you must read.
The Hick's newest work and this review subject, The Astonishing Power of Emotions, teaches how to quickly and easily achieve emotional relief from worries, judgments and other bad feelings. The trick is simple, easy, and doable: just reach for a more uplifting thought about what's going on. The thought doesn't have to be perfectly crafted, spiritually-oriented, religious or complex - just a slightly more elevated thought. Practical, concrete examples of how to do this are provided.
The The Astonishing Power of Emotions should be required reading for every earthling who's angry, guilty, depressed or stuck in a rut, which is pretty much all of us.
Message of Love/Harmlessness:
"Pure, positive energy" exists, is real and is vast. Your Inner Being (soul, spirit, God-self) is an extension of this energy. The only way to feel good in every moment is to align with this energy that is your Truth. When you do the work of making yourself feel better, it indicates that a change has occurred, and that's really all you have to do.
Inspiration: In many religious and spiritual circles, personal desires and getting your own sweet way has a very, very bad name. Wanting something is viewed as the ultimate source of suffering, as selfishness that derives from the ego, or as an inconvenient frustration that's never satisfied. Luckily for us, the Hicks and Abraham give us a more enlightened perspective about desire. The bottom line is that our personal life experience results in the expansion of the universe, and this expansion comes about through our newly discovered preferences about how our life can be improved. "Desire is born out of the contrast you are living... for during that process of knowing what you do not want, the clear, expanded idea of what you prefer instead is born."
When a desire is born, we either align with it (the art of allowing) or we resist it. The choice to allow or resist our desires to manifest is what this book is about. Your desires create a kind of current or "stream of life" experiences. Most of us are stuck in the trap of having desires and then blocking them with all our might by paddling against the stream.
"Everything that you have ever asked for is downstream, where you can easily find it, experience it, possess it, or live it. The Hicks and Abraham tell us to relax into our inevitable legacy. The fastest way to do this is to think of the current or stream as an emotional vibration. We only have to develop one skill: Identifying whether or not the emotion we are having feels good. If it doesn't, you are resisting and paddling against stream. The art of allowing "is the conscious, gentle guiding of your thoughts in the general direction of the things that you desire."
Relevance/Practicality:
Everyone suffers from resistance, which is why everyone will benefit from the 33 examples for releasing resistance. Topics include receiving a scary health diagnosis, divorce, disrespectful children, a gay son, people who lie about you, inability to lose weight, getting passed over for a promotion and more. Each example should be read and savored to learn how to let go of the oars and float to the life experience we have imagined for ourselves.
Organization/Readability: The first part of this book explains the concepts of resistance, allowing and emotional/vibrational alignment with Self. The second part shows how to put the concepts into action to feel better about the real-life problems we deal with. It's easy to read, follow and understand. Neutral God terminologies are used that will be acceptable to people of every religion or no religion.

From Publisher
This leading-edge book by Esther and Jerry Hicks, who present the teachings of the Non-Physical entity Abraham, will help you understand the emotions that you’ve been experiencing all of your life. Instead of the out-of-control, knee-jerk reactions that most people have to their ever-changing life experience, this work will put those responses into a broader context. You’ll come to understand what emotions are, what each of them means, and how to effectively utilize your new awareness of them.
As you read, you’ll come to appreciate, and make peace with, where you are right now, even though there is so much more that you may desire. Every thought you absorb will bring you to a greater understanding of your own personal value and will show you how to open your own doors to whatever you may wish to be, do, or have. And as you turn the last page of this book, you will very likely find yourself thinking, I have always known this, but now, I know this!

For those familiar with Abraham's work, this book is somewhat of a departure from the earlier publications. It represents a glittering synthesis of each of the three Laws of the Universe (The Law of Attraction, The Law of Deliberate Creation, and the Law of Allowing), into a cohesive "system" that may be applied to any emotional or life situation one could possibly encounter. Rather than place an emphasis on "processes", as in the earlier books, Abraham have refined and simplified their message (as if it wasn't simple already!) into a delightful metaphor of "upstream" and "downstream" thinking. They propose that on every subject, there are only two sorts of thoughts a person may engage in: upstream, or "resistant" thoughts, and downstream, or "allowing" thoughts. The degree to which an individual practices either literally determines their reality, as they are exposed to the flowing energy "Stream" of their vibrationally created desires calling them. It is a beautifully simple model that is employed throughout the book to extraordinary effect, as one turns each page increasingly astonished by the implications and promise of such an approach to life.
The first third of the book consists of some of the most heartfelt, compassionate and uplifting teachings yet delivered by Abraham. They explain that, as vibrational beings, we are constantly expanding, constantly generating new ideas and desires that make us more than we were before. As our "Stream" of desire flows faster, we feel the tugging of that in the form of emotion. At this point, we have a choice as to whether to paddle upstream (resist through negativity), or "let go of the oars" and allow ourselves to flow gently to whatever it is that we desire. As Abraham say:
"When you are allowing yourself to float freely in the Stream, without resistance, thus closing the gap between where you are right now and who the broader part of you has become, you feel your alignment in the form of positive emotion. But if you are still paddling upstream, holding yourself against the natural Current of your own evolution, your resistance to the Stream and to that which the larger part of you has become is evidenced in the form of negative emotion."
It's that simple! Paddle against the flow (by perpetually "fighting" to change circumstances), or let go of the oars, float gently, and be guided to everything you desire and are always worthy of.
The last two-thirds of the book consists of varied emotional scenarios in which we are shown exactly how to work ourselves up the emotional scale by adopting the practice of thinking downstream thoughts. In my opinion, this is the most powerful work Abraham has yet produced; there is no repetition, all the scenarios are fresh and new, and everything rings completely true. There are endless gems of wisdom that pepper the text, making this far and away the best "how-to" manual you'll ever read about pretty much everything you could ever consider important.
This book hasn't left my side in the time I've had it. I'm still absorbing its power, and am hugely grateful for it. I'd like to thank both Abraham and Esther Hicks for its manifestation. At a time when the planet would seem to be requiring the upliftment and awakening of as many humans as possible for its own evolutionary wellbeing, along comes a book like this at just the right time. Having read this, I have become aware of a deep inner knowing emerging that confirms Abraham's statement that indeed "All is Well". It is enormously comforting.
I hope that as many people as possible are able to read "The Astonishing Power of Emotions", appreciate its simplicity, improve their lives massively, and recreate their world in the process. Enjoy the ride! |

In the book, "The Astonishing Power of Emotions," Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks illustrates the life-changing teachings of Abraham - the wise and visionary group of nonphysical teachers from outside of our realm - back in 1987.
In their first book, "Ask and It Is Given," they demonstrate how we are the creator of our own experience and that we can deliberately create with our every thought. In their second book, "The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent," the author emphasizes how we, as human beings can in fact gently guide our thoughts in the general direction of the things that we desire by the art of "allowing." In their third book, "The Law of Attraction," Hicks revisit Abraham's basic teachings to learn how we can attract all that we want by the most powerful law of the Universe.
NOW, in their latest and NEWEST book, "The Astonishing Power of Emotions," Abraham lovingly combines all of the Universal laws and shows us how we can gain conscious awareness of our emotions, so we can use our own feelings to deliberately bring into our life only the things we want. Hicks, in other words, believes that we can use the Laws of the Universe to solve all of our challenges and help us "go with the flow" of our natural Well-Being.
This is an AMAZING book for those who like to discover more about ourselves. I believe you do NOT need to have read the first three of their books in order to enjoy their latest book on the power of emotions. Overall, this is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED book of the year. |

With every book, Abraham Hicks seems to just get better at what they are trying to tell us. I have been reading their material since about 10 years ago, and I can see they have gotten better.
In this book, they give us a new concept of a moving river. Resist the flow of the river (working hard, trying, resisting conditions, etc) all point upstream, and it beats us up. Abraham tells us that nothing we want is upstream. It seems upstream is a place totally opposite to the state we desire. What we desire is in the effortless downstream. The better way would be to go with the flow, feel good and go 'downstream'. This is Abraham's new way of describing the difference between easy manifesting and resistence.
In this book, Abraham gives us many senarios for us to reach downstream thoughts. Each choice of downstream thought leads us feeling a sense of Relief, which is feeling better about the subject/topic in hand. CHanging the way we feel about the topic is the way to change our point of attraction. You just got to read this book if you are into mastering the Law of Attraction. I find the great thing about this book is the many examples that applies in our daily lives, and Abraham teaches us how to reach for a better feeling thought in each case. It is not hard, it's just choosing a better feeling perspective or frame of view.
This book comes with a wonderful CD with Abraham summarising this concept for us, making it easy for you to understand. Creating the things you want in life has just gotten easier and clearer! |
