Julie Edwards takes us on a magical trip which is only possible for those who can use their imaginations and carefully observe their surroundings. Children will love the comical creatures who can only defeat them if they allow their emotions, both positive and negative, to be used against them.
Whangdoodle is a "fanciful creature of undefined nature," it was also once the wisest, kindest, most fun-loving living thing in the world-until people stopped believing in it. When that lack of faith became widespread, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles created a special land full of extraordinary creatures: furry Flukes, the sly High-Behind Splintercat, and the wonderful Whiffle Bird. But when an open-minded professor-the one adult who still believes in the Whangdoodle-joins forces with three children with active imaginations, they become an unstoppable team on a fantastic and sometimes terrifying journey to Whangdoodleland.
Readers will be thrilled at this new destination-a marvelous land that will inspire and stimulate creative and scientific minds. And Julie (Andrews) Edwards’s Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music have won him great fame. Her lively and clever style pulls readers along effortlessly; she, like the professor, is one grownup who can teach children never to close their minds to possibility.

The Whangdoodle was once the wisest, the kindest, and the most extraordinary creature in the world. Then he disappeared and created a wonderful land for himself and all the other remarkable animals - the ten-legged Sidewinders, the little furry Flukes, the friendly Whiffle Bird, and the treacherous, "oily" Prock. It was an almost perfect place where the last of the really great Whangdoodles could rule his kingdom with "peace, love and a sense of fun" - apart from and forgotten by people. But not completely forgotten. Professor Savant believed in the Whangdoodle. And when he told the three Potter children of his search for the spectacular creature, Lindy, Tom, and Ben were eager to reach Whangdoodleland. With the Professor's help, they discovered the secret way. But waiting for them was the scheming Prock, who would use almost any means to keep them away from his beloved king. Only by skill and determination were the four travelers able to discover the last of the really great Whangdoodles and grant him his heart's desire. Julie Andrews Edwards, star of stage and screen, has written a unique and beloved story that has become a modern classic. The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles is sure to continue to delight readers everywhere. This edition includes a new foreword by the author.

This book was one of the best books that I have ever read! It's a little slow at first but once you get into it you can't put it down! This book is extremely well detailed and the pictures it creates in your head are so wonderful!!! I already read this book 21 times and I had it for two months! This is the kind of book that defines a must read! Read it please! You'll be so glad you did! |

Our third grade class highly enjoyed listening to our teacher read The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. The story was exciting, adventurous, and our imaginations got plenty of exercise. We think Julie Edwards, the author, is a very descriptive writer who created fantastic pictures in our minds with her words. The out-of-the-ordinary creatures that Lindy, Tom, and Ben encountered on their journey to Whangdoodleland with Professor Savant were hilarious. There was never a dull moment because the story was filled with cliffhangers. The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles was our favorite read aloud this year. We highly recommend this book. |

I read this book around the age of eight. I fell in love with the magical land, with the professor, and with the Whangdoodle. I really believed in it too; I adopted the message of the book as a mantra- that magic is real-use your imagination. And I must admit that even ten years later I still find myself looking for the little berries in the grass. An amazing book! Anyone of any age with an imagination and the willingness to daydream ought to read this! |

This book is a great book if you aren't doing anything and have time to just sit down and read. You would think it is just like the Wizard Of Oz, and yes it is, but Julie Andrew Edwards has added a hole lot more and exciting things. As soon as I read the first chapter, it seemed kind of boring but as soon as I started reading, I couldn't stop! It is very good and if you are good at imaginaging things, you can picture this perfectly and it is very exciting at a lot of parts but if you can’t get into it, there must be a very good reason of that. Maybe you are having an "off" day and then try again. I think Julie Andrews Edwards did a very good job writing this story and it will be very exciting to see what other things that she has come out with and maybe a movie! |
