A self-made man with a can-do attitude and abundant passion for challenging his limit, Gary quit senior high school after only one semester due to the poverty of his parents, but he managed to complete his undergraduate and graduate school studies in English by himself in 7 years and worked his way to become one of the top ranking local Chinese in such multinationals as Sony, DuPont and Dell, where he held territory, national and sub regional positions in sales, marketing and leadership. At the beginning of 2006, after 14 years with big companies, he founded MindSpan Learning in Shanghai striving to utilize his strong experience and motivational power to help Chinese managers and professionals to become professionally more competitive through the enhancement of skills and attitude.

A firm advocate of man being his own master of life, Gary believes we can always choose our career and life, and only a proactive attitude will help. He also highly commends the power of dream, claiming man can achieve a lot more than he thought and thinking big is a virtue.

His favorite quote is "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish", which happens to be the life philosophy of an iconic personality of our time: Steve Jobs, founder and CEO of Apple Computer.

As a highly effective trainer, Gary's approach focuses on combining skills training with rich experience and a discipline to empower and inspire learning and development, and to help others achieve. As a result, his trainings are often practical, motivating and in many cases,life-changing.

Starting his Sony career as a marketing rep with Recording Media & Energy Division (RME) based in Guangzhou, Gary poured his heart into doing a good job building the distribution network in South, East and West China for the RME business. He became China Sales Manager for Sony Battery in 1999 and then was appointed the first National Account Sales Manager of Sony (China) Ltd. in 2000 responsible for the most challenging channel for its consumer electronics business. National accounts include the chain merchandisers such as Guomei, Suning, Yongle, Carrefour, Wal-Mart, Metro and Sam's Club, which represented about 17% of total Sony consumer business when the National Account Sales Management Div. was established in 2000. Today this channel contributes 50% of the total Sony China consumer sales.

Gary held the position until he left Sony in May 2002. Gary had learned his marketing and innovation lessons at Sony. It's this experience that had turned him into a typical marketing guy able to think and act from marketing perspective.

During his tenure, he successfully grew DuPont's market share in China's flexographic printing market from 56% to 78% implementing a host of marketing and sales techniques to attack competition and to create new market space.

The biggest reward for this DuPont experience is that he learned to be a leader of principles. Leadership, safety, core values and value-selling are among the most treasured takeaways after he left the company in July 2005.
