We got this book from the library, and ended up buying a copy because our little hamster lover can't get enough of this book. She quickly memorized the little bits of text in the book, and every time we go through the book she notices more details. We've probably read the book 70 times and still don't tire of it since it's such a good fun. If your child likes puzzles, or the "I Spy" series, and has a small pet, then he/she will probably adore this book. Give it a try!

I bought this book for my daughter when she was only a few months old. At this time, I probably love it more than she. But as she gets older, I'm sure she'll love it as well. There is so much to look at, that my husband and I are always finding new things we never noticed before. We really enjoy reading it to our daughter. It is just so cute! Rathmann did a great job.

I got this book for my 2.5 years old nephew. We had a great time reading it and he begged for it each day. The book does not have a lot of text, but the pictures are truly worth a thousand words. There's a lot going on in each page; which makes for a fun time discussing all the things going on. I highly recommend it.

This book is great for little ones. We loved Good night Gorilla and this book. My daughter loves to play the "where is the... (soccer ball, stroller, umbrella, etc.)" game. I point something out that is on the page and she looks for it. Great picture/word recognition for little ones. My daughter absolutely loves this book. Very little words, but it takes us a long time to read by playing the game mentioned above. One odd thing, the boy puts on his pj's before he takes his bath, but my little one hasn't really noticed it.

My son must have a hundred books, but you can believe that he reaches for this one first every time. Some nights we have to read it five times before he'll go to bed... and he's only a year old. The detail in the pictures is unmatched; it seems like every time I read it to him I notice something different. He must too, because he will point to different things each time. Because there aren't too many words, it allows me to change the story each time, which really amuses my son. Not for those who just want to read to their kids without having to think... this book requires a little creativity on the part of the reader.

This wonderful book can be enjoyed by toddlers and "Big" Kids. My 6 year old niece loved to "read" this book to her 2 year old cousin. The two year old would pick out hamesters and the 6 year old made up stories about them. Both children had so much fun "reading" this book together. The text is very simple - the pictures tell most of the story. And what stories they can tell! Have fun exploring out the pictures with your special little (or big!) one.

My children adore this book, so we've read it many, many times. They still squeal with delight and laughter. There is so much detail, that you can't help but discover something new with each reading (keeping it entertaining for mom and dad as well as Junior). My one recommendation is that you buy the hardcover version versus the board book. We have both. The board book lacks some of the detail of the original.

This is a really cute book, although there's not much reading involved. It's about a boy and his hamster who give a "10 Minute Bedtime Tour" to a family of hamsters. Each of the 10 little hamster children has a personality all his own, and it's great fun looking over each page to see what they are up to.

This book is so different from all the usual children books you are used to read to your kids. The book is original and different and yet so easy to identify with (we want to stretch the time till bedtime) and to enjoy...The reader has to tell the story as he understands it as the text is very very minimal and basically we see the father declaring how many more minutes till bedtime (all this while reading the newspaper undisturbed!). Meanwhile, a whole "summer vacation" is rapidly passing through the house when the hamsters are visiting in an organized tour. The tour gets more "condensed" as bedtime approaches and the story reaches its climax (at least for my son and I) in the bathtab scene page portraying all the hamsters in what seems to be like the French Riviera in summer... (am I crazy to sense a little criticism too or is this page just an honest portrayal of human nature?) very enjoyable to read and check out all the different activities going on and to see "the story inside the story". I am familiar with Peggy Rathmann's other books and love them as well but this one truly comes from a very creative mind...

I checked this book out of the library for my 2 1/2yr old daughter. Although she enjoys most books we check out, I've never seen her react so favorably to a book and because there are so many things going on, I never tire of reading it with her! We've discovered something new every single time we've read it. We enjoy finding the 10 numbered hamsters of the family and always know #9 is going to be up high, etc! Not to mention how she helps me "read" it, shouting out bedtime and counting down w/me! It reminds me of a Richard Scarry book my brother had growing up that he would never put down and I knew I had to make this a permanent addition to our family!
