This book is amazing! I was very reassured when I saw the American Girls name on the product. My daughter loves their books and I knew this would be right on her level.
We read the book one section at a time. It took us about a week. I wanted to go slowly so that I could answer any questions she had or to emphasize anything.
I was very proud to see that many of the ideals that I have exposed her to were deeply rooted in her and came out in our discussions as we read the book. It was a perfect opportunity to "test" her knowledge and find out what misconceptions she had formed in her mind.
The book is very easy to read and has become my daughter's most read in her library. I can see that she finds it empowering to know what is going on and what will happen to her body as she grows.

I bought this for my ten year old daughter on a whim. We have an open relationship and I thought we had covered everything she would want or need to know. What I hadn't realized is that she may want to reaccess this information over and over at her own pace.
This book is well written with information on basic hygiene intermixed with more "delicate" topical information. A definite must have in the libarary of any preteen girl! |

This book is wonderful. It makes explaining changes simple. It is so easy to follow. My girls love it. It even explains things like how to brush your teeth, take care of your hair, how to choose a bra, it addresses eating disorders, and much more without getting into a sexual aspect, which a lot of books do. I highly recommend this book. |

Although I was a little leery because of the fairly graphic pictures, I also realize that an accurate depiction is better than a cartoony one. I got this book for my daughter because I thought she could flip through at her own pace and refer back to it if she needed and learn the facts correctly instead of from friends, like I did.
When I first gave her the book, she rolled her eyes and tossed it in the corner, but I have noticed this last week she has been reading it quite a bit. I think it is important to just not push them, they will read when they are ready. The book lays the information out clearly and concisely. |
