If you have any need to write in APA, this book is a must. This is the standard by which your work will be judged. If you are not familiar with APA format, you may find this book very unwieldy and confusing at first. Each salient feature is denoted with a comment balloon referring you to the applicable section of the guide. This simple technique should get you started.
The American Psychological Association Publication Manual is the standard by which all psychology research and experimental data write-ups must conform in the field of psychology. Generally, by the time you are a junior in an undergraduate program, you should have this book, especially if you are taking any research-oriented classes. The book is not the easiest to follow. Information about each section of your papers is scattered throughout the manual. It could use some organizational improvements. There is a sample paper in the manual, but it is incomplete, and there is no template to follow for creating your paper's sections in a formulaic, step-by-step manner. No matter where you are at in your career, this is money well-spent. - From quoting Jacob and Jackie

University student and faculty member; or professionals alike

This book is extremely easy to use. Full of information and most of my teachers use it as a foundation for grading our papers...however, the text is written in a light font. It makes it very hard to read. I have to hold the book at an angle and keep moving several times. I even went to a book store and found the book, hoping that perhaps this book was faulty. Unfortunatly, this was not the case. Too bad, its a good product, just hard to read, especially when you're tired, you don't need to straining your eyesight to make it better to see. It's a shame. It is a terrific book, easy to follow, with plenty of do's and don'ts etc. The book is so good. I am seriously contemplating taking it to a Kwik Kopy and photocopying the entire book at a darker print to make it easier to read. The book is that good.

If you need to know APA style, this book covers all the bases and is pretty user-friendly. Although I have seen this book with a spiral binding that might be easier to use, being able to leave one page open to refer to. |

This book is obviously necessary for anyone who needs to write in the APA format. Whether or not the format is good or bad is beside the point. It clearly stipulates what writers need to know to format their articles correctly.
I recommend this book for anyone needing to write in the APA format. As a psychology student, I have found it extremely useful to answer all the little questions a person unfamiliar with writing articles has about format. |

If you're required to use APA format and you only want to buy one book, this is the one. While some of the mastery guides to using APA might be helpful, this manual is the bible. It is not, however, Greek or Hebrew. It is a little intimidating until you get used to it and if you're doing much APA writing, you're going to get VERY used to it. A spiral-bound copy makes it easy to keep the book open to your place - the only thing that would make it better is tabs for frequently used sections (but you can add those yourself). |
